Topal, Tansel
The extraction procedures for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) concentrations in sediment samples had been developed by using GC-FID and GC-MS. The optimized methods were soxhlet extraction, ultrasonic bath extraction and solid phase micro extraction (SPME). In order to search out the main factors affecting extraction efficiencies of the methods, factorial design was used. The best extraction method was chosen and optimum values for main factors were selected for the development of the extraction method for PAH determination in sediment samples. The accuracy of the method was verified by analyzing NIST SRM 1597 (complex mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from coal tar). The selectivitiy and sensitivity obtained were quite adequate for the determination of PAHs in sediment sample. The best extraction and analysis methods were then applied to determine 16 PAHs in sea sediments from Ölüdeniz Lagoon, Muğla, Turkey and 19 PAHs in İkizcetepeler Dam Lake, Balıkesir, Turkey sediments to illustrate the capability of the selected extraction and analysis method to detect PAHs and to determine the status of the contamination.

Novel conversion of thiols into disulfides, via S-nitrosothiol intermediates using trichloronitromethane
Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Igdir, AC; Mahasneh, AS (1999-10-15)
An efficient oxidative coupling of thiols to give disulfides via thionitrite (S-nitrosothiol) intermediate is described using trichloronitromethane as an efficient reagent in organic solvents and water. Cysteine and glutathione are converted into the corresponding disulfides in water in high yields.

Optimization and Comparison of High-Pressure-Assisted Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Olive Pomace
Okur, İlhami; Öztop, Halil Mecit; Alpas, Hami (2022-12-16)
In this study, it was aimed to find the optimum condition for extraction of phenolic compounds from olive pomace by using high-pressure-assisted extraction (HPAE). In this method, different pressure parameters (300-500 MPa), times (5-15 min), and ethanol concentrations (50-90% v/v) were used. According to Box-Behnken design, 15 experimental runs were performed to find the optimum condition of total phenolic and oleuropein contents. Also, the optimum HPAE condition was compared with that of classical solvent...
Optimization of supercritical CO2 extraction of Thymbra spicata oil
Sonsuzer, S; Şahin, Serpil; Yılmaz, Levent (Elsevier BV, 2004-07-01)
The supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) of aroma compounds from Thymbra spicata was studied. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the parameters of the supercritical fluid extraction. Independent variables were temperature (40, 50 and 60 degreesC), pressure (80, 100 and 120 bar) and time (30, 60 and 90 min). Dependent variables were yield, monoterpene, sesquiterpene and oxygenated monoterpene contents.
