This thesis presents structural analysis of a cockpit of a jet trainer type aircraft and the correlation studies performed by using ground pressurisation test results. For this purpose, first the response of the complex integrated fuselage structure is investigated under the complex type cabin pressure load. Then, cockpit part of the fuselage structure is modelled using commercial finite element software MSC/PATRAN® and MSC/NASTRAN®. The finite element model (FEM) of the cockpit structure is improved by the examination of the ground pressurisation test data and is finalised after achieving a good correlation between the finite element analysis (FEA) and the test results. This final form of the FEM of the cockpit structure serving as a benchmark is proved to be reliable for any future modifications.

Structural optimization of a jet trainer wing structure under strength and stiffness related constraints
Adıgüzel, Ozan; Şahin, Melin; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2020-9)
This thesis presents structural optimization studies for a jet trainer aircraft wing structure. The main purpose is to select the most convenient rib/spar layout for T-38 wing like geometry which consists of metallic and composite components by using a finite element modeling and analysis tool of MSC NASTRAN optimization capabilities. In this study, in order to decrease the number of design variables and as well as to be able to obtain smooth thickness transitions between adjacent zones, design variable lin...
Structural optimization of composite and aluminum horizontal tail plane of a helicopter
Arpacıoğlu, Bertan; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
This thesis presents structural optimization studies of aluminum and composite material horizontal tail plane structure of a helicopter by using MSC.NASTRAN optimization capabilities. Structural design process starts from conceptual design phase, and structural layout design is performed by using CATIA. In the preliminary design phase, study focuses on minimum weight optimization with multiple design variables and similar constraints for both materials. Aerodynamic load calculation is performed using ANSYS ...
Air data system calibration for military transport aircraft modernization program
Özer, Hüseyin Erman; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2013)
This thesis presents the calibration processes of the pitot-static system, which is a part of the air data system of a military transport aircraft through flight tests. Tower fly-by method is used for air data system calibration. Altitude error caused by the position of the static port on the aircraft is determined by analyzing the data collected during four sorties with different weight, flap and landing gear configurations. The same data has been used to determine the airspeed measurement error. It has be...
Development of an autopilot for automatic landing of an unmanned aerial vehicle
Arıbal, Seçkin; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
This thesis presents the design of an autopilot and guidance system for an unmanned aerial vehicle. Classical (PID) and modern control (LQT, Sliding Mode) methods for autonomous navigation and landing in adverse weather conditions are implemented. Two different guidance systems are designed in order to navigate through waypoints during normal and/or emergency flight. The nonlinear Pioneer UAV model is used in controller development and simulations. Aircraft is linearized at different trim points and total a...
