Development and investigation of etoposide resistance in MCF-7 Breast cancer cell line
Kaplan, Esra; Gündüz, Ufuk; Department of Biology (2010)
Failure of chemotherapy in cancer patients because of development of drug resistance is a major problem. Alterations of DNA repair mechanisms and drug targets are among the important resistance mechanisms which are developed against topoisomerase II inhibitors etoposide and doxorubicin. Modifications in the expression levels of mismatch repair (MMR) genes due to resistance to topoisomerase II inhibitors are involved in breast cancer. In this study, etoposide resistant sublines were developed from MCF7 breas...
Purification and characterization of two forms of microsomal cytochrome b5 from sheep lung
Basaran, N; Arinc, E (Elsevier BV, 1998-06-01)
Two forms of cytochrome b5 were purified from detergent solubilized sheep lung microsomes by three successive DEAE-cellulose, Sephadex G-100 and Sephadex G-200 column chromatographies. The specific contents of cytochromes b5-I and b5-II were determined to be 45.4 and 43.8 nmol b5/mg protein, which represented up to 567 and 547-fold purification compared with that of the lung microsomes. The most striking difference between b5-I and b5-II was observed in their elution pattern from the third DEAE-cellulose co...
Characterization and identification of human mesenchymal stem cells at molecular level
Aksoy, Ceren; Severcan, Feride; Çetinkaya, Duygu Uçkan; Department of Biotechnology (2012)
Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) are pluripotent cells that can differentiate into a variety of non-hematopoietic tissues. They also maintain healthy heamatopoiesis by providing supportive cellular microenvironment into BM. In this thesis, MSCs were characterized in terms of their morphological, immunophenotypical and differentiation properties. Then, they were examined by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy together with hierarchical clustering, and FT...
Application of image enhancement algorithms to improve the visibility and classification of microcalcifications in mammograms
Akbay, Cansu; Gençer, Nevzat Güneri; Gençer, Gülay; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2015)
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths for women. Mammography is the most effective technology presently available for breast cancer screening, despite the fact that there are still some limitations of the imaging technique, such as insufficient resolution, low local contrast and noise combined with the subtle nature of the usual radiographic findings. One of the most important radiographic findings associated to the existence of breast cancer is the clustered microcalcifications. Especi...
