Weight function method for transient thermomechanical fracture analysis of a functionally graded hollow cylinder possessing a circumferential crack
Eshraghi, Iman; Soltani, Nasser; Dağ, Serkan (Informa UK Limited, 2016-01-01)
This article introduces a weight function method for fracture analysis of a circumferentially cracked functionally graded hollow cylinder subjected to transient thermomechanical loading. Analytical solutions for transient temperature and stress distributions in the uncracked cylinder are derived by applying finite Hankel transformation. These solutions are utilized to determine stress acting on the faces of the circumferential crack in the local perturbation problem. Thermomechanical material properties are...
Weight function for a single edge cracked geometry with clamped ends
John, Reji; Kaldon, Stephen G.; Johnson, David A.; Çöker, Demirkan (1985-08-01)
A single edge cracked geometry with clamped ends is well suited for fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth testing of composites and thin materials. Analysis of fiber bridging phenomenon in the composites and determination of stress intensity factors due to non-uniform stress distributions such as residual and thermal stresses generally require the use of a weight function. This paper describes the development and verification of a weight function for the single edge cracked geometry with clamped ends....
Weight reduction of an unmanned aerial vehicle pylon fitting by topology optimization and additive manufacturing with electron beam melting
Yilmaz, Fatih; Şahin, Melin; Gürses, Ercan (2021-12-01)
The operating altitudeof unmanned aerial vehiclescan be affected by many parameters. Lightening the structural parts to achieve targetaltitudeis one of the design efforts. Weight reductioncan beachieved by converting primary and secondary structures from metallic to carbon composite material. In addition, some secondary structures, such as fittings, have to be produced metallic and usually made ofaluminum alloys. In addition to the weightdisadvantage, aluminum allo...
