Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is a particle detector built for the purpose of detecting primordial anti-matter and signals of dark matter. AMS-02 operates as an external module on the International Space Station and will be operational for at least 10 years. For finding traces of the strongest dark matter candidate, neutralino, peaks in the background positron, antiproton and gamma ray flux have to be studied. For this purpose, AMS-02 includes a permanent magnet that bends particles and anti-particles in opposite directions, a tracking system and high precision detectors (Transition Radiation Detector (TRD), Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL)) which identifies electrons and positrons among other cosmic particles. There are two ways to do photon analysis: conversion mode and calorimetric mode. Conversion mode inludes the photons which start their showers in the upper parts of AMS-02 detector. In calorimetric mode, photons which convert into electron-positron pairs after entering Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) are taken into account. In this thesis, calorimetric photons will be studied above 5 GeV.

Conversion mode photon analysis using the alpha magnetic spectrometer (AMS-02)
Postacı, Emirhan; Demirköz, Melahat Bilge; Department of Physics (2014)
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is a particle physics detector operating as an external module on the International Space Station (ISS). It is designed to search for antimatter and dark matter by measuring cosmic ray composition and flux. Dark matter does not interact electromagnetically, so cannot be detected directly with optical instruments. A strong candidate of dark matter is the lightest supersymmetric particle which can annihilate into the Standard Model particles, called the neutralino. If ...
Photovoltaic Effect and Space Charge Limited Current Analysis in TlGaTe2 Crystals
QASRAWI, ATEF FAYEZ HASAN; Yaseen, T. R.; Eghbariy, B.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, 2012-07-01)
Anisotropic space charge limited current density analysis and photovoltaic effect in TlGaTe2 single crystals has been investigated. It is shown that, above 330 K, the crystal exhibits intrinsic and extrinsic type of conductivity along (c-axis) and perpendicular (a-axis) to the crystal's axis, respectively. The current density (J) is found to be space charge limited. It is proportional to the square and three halves power of voltage (V) along the a- and c-axis, respectively. Along the a-axis and at sufficien...
Ensemble monte carlo simulation of quantum well infrared photodetectors, and inp based long wavelength quantum well infrared photodetectors for thermal imaging
Cellek, Oray Orkun; Beşikci, Cengiz; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
Quantum well infrared photodetectors (QWIP) utilize quantum wells of large bandgap materials to detect infrared radiation. When compared to conventional low bandgap LWIR photodetectors, the QWIP technology offers largest format thermal imagers with much better uniformity. The theoretical part of this study includes the development of a QWIP ensemble Monte Carlo simulator. Capture paths of electrons to quantum wells are simulated in detail. For standard AlGaAs/GaAs QWIPs, at medium and high E-fields L valley...
Electronic structure of a many-electron spherical quantum dot with an impurity
Sahin, M; Tomak, Mehmet (American Physical Society (APS), 2005-09-01)
We investigate the electronic structure of a many-electron spherical quantum dot with and without hydrogenic impurity. The number of electrons is taken as N=18. The density functional theory is used within local density approximation. Total energy, chemical potential, addition energy spectra, and the shell structure are determined and the results obtained are compared for cases with and without impurity. It is observed that the capacitive energy with the impurity increases in the 1s shell with respect to th...
ELECTRON POLARIZATION IN QUANTUM-WELLS WITH UNIFORM ELECTRIC-FIELD
ILAIWI, KF; Tomak, Mehmet (Wiley, 1991-08-01)
The polarization of a quantum electron confined in square, parabolic, and triangular quantum wells is calculated numerically. The aim of the present calculations is to compare the results for various geometries.
