Urban regeneration is the last part of a series of policies that are implemented to tackle the problems that cities face. The concept of urban regeneration has been evolved in relation to a series of social, economic and political change that mark different periods in historical context. There are both continuities and discontinuities between different periods of historical progress of urban regeneration. Urban regeneration projects are multi-faceted processes that require involvement of various actors in which the state holds the strongest position. Dikmen Valley Project is among the first examples of large-scale urban regeneration projects in Turkey. The Project has witnessed a local government change through its historical progress and gone through a significant change because of administrative and ideological shifts. In this context, the aim of this study is to scrutinize how urban regeneration projects are affected by ideological and political changes through the analysis of Dikmen Valley Project as case study. The thesis also aims to discover the continuities and discontinuities resulted from the ideological and political changes that happened during the implementation of the project.
