Novel bioconversion reactions for the syntheses of a-hydroxy ketones
Ayhan, Peruze; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Department of Biotechnology (2009)
The objective of the study presented here was to develop either enzymatic or whole cell mediated green procedures for the syntheses of a-hydroxy ketones. Production of optically active synthons is crucial for the preparation of fine chemicals. Enzymes and whole-cell biocatalysts have proven to be excellent vehicles with their chiral nature for the biotransformations. Under the light of this discussion, firstly benzaldehyde lyase [BAL, (EC 4.1.2.38)] was used in novel C-C bond formation reactions to obtain i...
Novel Molecular Building Blocks Based on the Boradiazaindacene Chromophore: Applications in Fluorescent Metallosupramolecular Coordination Polymers
Bozdemir, Oe. Altan; Buyukcakir, Onur; AKKAYA, Engin Umut (Wiley, 2009-01-01)
We designed and synthesized novel boradiazaindacene (Bodipy) derivatives that are appropriately functionalized for metal-ion-mediated supramolecular polymerization. Thus, ligands for 2-terpyridyl-, 2,6-terpyridyl-. and bipyridyl-functionalized Bodipy dyes were synthesized through Sonogashira couplings. These fluorescent building blocks are responsive to metal ions in a stoichiometry-dependent manner. Octahedral coordinating metal ions such as Zn-II result in polymerization at a stoichiometry corresponding t...
Novel supramolecular organocatalyst for asymmetric aldol reactions
Demircan, Ezgi; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2013)
The proline–calix[4]arene thiourea host–guest complex catalyzed intermolecular aldol reaction of aromatic aldehydes with cyclohexanone is developed. The anti-configured products were obtained in good yields and high enantioselectivities. The reaction is proposed to work via modified Houk–List model, where the carboxylate part of the proline constitutes a supramolecular system with the thiourea. The outcome of the study indicates the influence of the calix[4]arene thiourea on the reactivity and selectivity i...
NOVEL PHEMA MEMBRANES FOR POTENTIAL BIOELECTRODE USE
Arıca, MY; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (1993-05-14)
Several types of PHEMA membranes were prepared via photopolymerization. In some applications, glucose oxidase (GOD) was entrapped in the bulk of the membrane or between layers. In others it was covalently bonded on the membranes. The effect of chemical composition and various initiators on the entrapped GOD were determined. In the entrapment in the bulk it was found that as the monomer concentration in the polymerization medium increased, the GOD activity decreased. Among the initiators used, the highest en...
Novel thermally stable organo-montmorillonites from phosphonium and imidazolium surfactants
Abdallah, Wissam; Yılmazer, Ülkü (Elsevier BV, 2011-10-20)
To circumvent the deleterious early decomposition effects of thermally unstable alkyl ammonium-treated montmorillonites when processed with high-melting-point polymers, high thermally stable salts are used as intercalant agents for sodium montmorillonite rich bentonites of Turkish origin, by an ion exchange reaction to produce organo-montmorillonites with enhanced thermal stability. The bentonite clay was purified by sedimentation, resulting in higher cation exchange capacity and thermal stability in compar...
