The goal of the present study is to investigate the underlying mechanics of a likely interaction between two phenomena, namely “War” and “DDoS Attacks”, using computational methods. For this, first, we study the characteristics of the Lanchester Combat (Kinetic) Model, the Kermack and McKendrick’s Epidemic (S-I-R) Model and the Mixed Epidemic Model. Then we propose a computational model and run simulations that simulate the influence of DDoS on the available combat model. The analyses and the results of simulated data reveal the potential influence of DDoS attacks, by providing insights about the cyber war effects on war and casualties that may impact the fighting sides.

Impact of Number of Interactions, Different Interaction Patterns, and Human Inconsistencies on Some Hybrid Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization Algorithms
Marquis, Jon; Gel, Esma S.; Fowler, John W.; Koeksalan, Murat; Korhonen, Pekka; Wallenius, Jyrki (2015-10-01)
We investigate the impact of the number of human-computer interactions, different interaction patterns, and human inconsistencies in decision maker responses on the convergence of an interactive, evolutionary multiobjective algorithm recently developed by the authors. In our context an interaction means choosing the best and worst solutions among a sample of six solutions. By interaction patterns we refer to whether preference questioning is more front-, center-, rear-, or edge-loaded. As test problems we u...
Effect of using extreme years in hydrologic model calibration performance
Göktaş, Recep Kaya; Tezel, Ulaş; Kargı, Pınar Gökçe; Ayvaz, Mustafa Tamer; Tezyapar, İpek; Mesta, Buket; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin (2017-12-15)
Hydrological models are useful in predicting and developing management strategies for controlling the system behaviour. Specifically they can be used for evaluating streamflow at ungaged catchments, effect of climate change, best management practices on water resources, or identification of pollution sources in a watershed. This study is a part of a TUBITAK project named "Development of a geographical information system based decision-making tool for water quality management of Ergene Watershed using pollut...
Attraction of Li-Yorke chaos by retarded SICNNs
Akhmet, Marat (Elsevier BV, 2015-01-05)
In the present study, dynamics of retarded shunting inhibitory cellular neural networks (SICNNs) is investigated with Li-Yorke chaotic external inputs and outputs. Within the scope of our results, we prove the presence of generalized synchronization in coupled retarded SICNNs, and confirm it by means of the auxiliary system approach. We have obtained more than just synchronization, as it is proved that the Li-yorke chaos is extended with its ingredients, proximality and frequent separation, which have not b...
Impact of Rescaling Approaches in Simple Fusion of Soil Moisture Products
Afshar, Mahdı Hesamı ; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul (American Geophysical Union (AGU), 2019-09-10)
In this study, the impact of various rescaling approaches in the framework of data fusion is explored. Four different soil moisture products (Advanced Scatterometer; Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for EOS, AMSR-E; Antecedent Precipitation Index; and Global Land Data Assimilation System-NOAH) are fused. The systematic differences between products are removed before the fusion utilizing various rescaling approaches focusing on different methods (regression, variance/cumulative distribution function (C...
