In this study, quinoxaline, benzotriazole and benzodithiophene containing three random donor-acceptor type copolymers were synthesized and their electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, kinetic and photovoltaic properties were investigated. Quinoxaline demonstrates electron accepting properties due to having imine nitrogens. Also, benzotriazole derivatives with their electron withdrawing imine groups in their structures also lead to exhibit high electron transporting ability. Benzodithiophene derivatives demonstrate electron donor property because the structure of benzene with coherent thiophene gives these polymers high hole mobility. In addition, alkoxyl groups in benzodithiophene derivatives help to increase the solubility of the polymer. Bringing together these three groups yields the conjugated copolymer with broad absorption band in the visible region. This study includes the construction of random copolymers by using quinoxaline derivatives (5,8-dibromo-2,3-di(thiophen-2-yl) quinoxaline, 5,8-dibromo-2,3-diphenylquinoxaline, 10,13-dibromo-8b,14a-dihydrodibenzo(a,c)phenazine) and 2,6-Bis(trimethylstannyl)-4,8-bis(2-ethylhexyloxy)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene and 4,7-dibromo-2-(2-octyldodecyl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole. 1H and 13C-NMR Spectroscopy were used to investigate the structure of monomers and polymers. Produced polymers were utilized as donor material and PC71BM was used as acceptor material in bulk hetero-junction photovoltaic devices. Power conversion efficiencies of solar cell devices with different Polymer: PC71BM ratios (w:w) were measured under AM 1.5 G illumination (100 mW/cm2) and best PCE value was recorded as 2.22 % with 1:4 (w:w) P2: PC71BM blend ratio.

A triazoloquinoxaline and benzodithiophene bearing low band gap copolymer for electrochromic and organic photovoltaic applications
HACIOGLU, Serife O.; UNLU, Naime A.; AKTAS, Ece; HIZALAN, Gonul; Yildiz, Esra D.; Çırpan, Ali; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2017-06-01)
A new triazoloquinoxaline and benzodithiophene based copolymer was synthesized to investigate its electro-chemical, optical and photovoltaic behaviors. According to the polymer design, combination of two acceptor units (benzotriazole and quinoxaline) which contribute imine bonds to the structure and a triazoloquinoxaline unit for enhancing electron accepting ability was pursued. As a result of electrochemical studies, the copolymer PTQBDT has a low lying HOMO energy level as - 5.23 eV which increases the ch...
A thiazolothiazole containing multichromic polymer for glucose detection
Soylemez, S.; Kaya, H. Z.; Udum, Y. A.; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Department of Polymer Engineering, Scientific Society of Mechanical Engineering, 2019-10-01)
Donor-acceptor (DA) type monomers namely 2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (TTzTh) and 2,5-bis(3-methylthiophen-2-yl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (TTzMTh) were synthesized and their electrochemical and optoelectronic properties were investigated in detail. The spectro-electrochemical analysis showed that the alkyl chain substitution results in a shift in the onset of the pi-pi* transition towards longer wavelengths. Depending on the donor substituents, the polymers exhibited optical band gaps 1.65 and...
Synthesis of bistriphenylamine- and benzodithiophene-based random conjugated polymers for organic photovoltaic applications
CETIN, Asli; ISTANBULLUOGLU, Cagla; HACIOGLU, Serife Ozdemir; CEVHER, ŞEVKİ CAN; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (2017-11-15)
In this study, donor-acceptor random polymers containing benzotriazole acceptor and bistriphenylamine and benzodithiophene donors, P1 and P2, were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling polymerization. The effect of bistriphenylamine moiety and thiophene -conjugated linker on electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and optical behaviors of the polymers were investigated. Optoelectronic properties and photovoltaic performance of the polymers were examined under the illumination of AM 1.5G, 100 mWcm(-2)...
Structural and thermal characterization of polymers via pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Argın, Emir; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Department of Chemistry (2005)
In the first part of this study, the structtural and thermal characterization of electrochemically and chemically polymerized poly(paraphenylene vinylene), (PPV), have been investigated by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Thermal characteristics, and degradation products of electrochemically prepared poly(paraphenylene vinylene). Pyrolysis study indicated that thermal decomposition of PPV occurs at least two steps. The first being due to the loss of supporting electrolyte present and the second being dec...
