Ratcheting, the accumulation of plastic strain under cyclic loading, will be investigated for uniaxial and biaxial loading in this study. The simulations of ratcheting will be carried on for different yield criteria and kinematic hardening rules. The corresponding stress-strain relations will be developed and used in the numerical analysis by implementing subroutines to a commercial finite element software. The numerical results will be compared with the experimental ones to evaluate the applicability of the constitutive equations that are obtained by using the selected yield criteria and kinematic hardening rules.

Stability of carbon nanoonion C-20@C-60@C-240: Molecular dynamics simulations
Erkoç, Şakir (2002-03-01)
The structural stability of carbon nanoonion C-20@C-60@C-240 has been investigated by performing molecular dynamics computer simulations. Calculations have been realized by using an empirical many-body potential energy function for carbon. It has been found that carbon nanoonion is not so resistive against heat treatment, nor is it as strong as isolated single carbon nanoballs. Although single nanoballs resist heat treatment up to 4300 K, nanoonion disintegrates after 2600 K.
DEFORMATION ANALYSIS OF TWO LAYER COMPOSITE TUBES UNDER CYCLIC LOADING OF EXTERNAL PRESSURE
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (2016-01-01)
The stress response of axially constrained two-layer composite tubes under cyclic loading of external pressure is investigated in this study. Elastic and elastoplastic stress states for the tube assemblies are examined by developing a mathematical model based on Tresca's yield criterion, its associated ow rule, and linear strain hardening. Using this model, the composite tubes with different dimensions are analyzed under one cycle of loading, unloading, and reloading of external pressure. It is observed tha...
Circumferential crack problem for an fgm cylinder under thermal stresses
Dağ, Serkan; Kadıoğlu, Fevzi Suat (1999-01-01)
The main objective of this study is to determine the stress intensity factors associated with a circumferential crack in a thin-walled cylinder subjected to quasi-static thermal loading. The cylinder is assumed to be a functionally graded material In order to make the problem analytically tractable, the thin-walled cylinder is modeled as a layer on an elastic foundation whose thermal and mechanical properties are exponential functions of the thickness coordinate. Hence a plane strain crack problem is obtain...
Modeling and computational simulation of adsorption based chemical heat pumps
Yurtsever, Ahmet Onur; Karakaş, Gürkan; Uludağ, Yusuf (2013-01-10)
In this study a methodology is developed for the design of a packed bed reactor to be used in a Chemical Heat Pump (CHP). Adsorption and desorption of ethanol on active carbon packing in the reactor are investigated. Depending on the cycle, i.e. adsorption or desorption, cooling or heating of the reactor material is modeled through transient energy equation. The parameters associated with the vapor-carbon adsorption kinetics are experimentally determined. Then spatial distribution of temperature and adsorbe...
Assessment of improved banded model for spectral thermal radiation in presence of non-gray particles in fluidized bed combustors
Yaşar, Mehmet Soner; Ozen, Guzide; Selçuk, Nevin; Külah, Görkem (2020-07-01)
In this study, Bordbar's banded model is coupled with a 3-D radiation model based on method of lines (MOL) solution of discrete ordinates method (DOM) for modeling of radiative heat transfer in freeboard of METU 0.3 MWt ABFBC test rig where a typical Turkish lignite is fired with and without fly ash recycling. The accuracy and the computational efficiency of the model were assessed by benchmarking its predictions against banded SLW model. Furthermore, in order to show the effect of gas composition on predic...
