The purpose of this thesis was to adapt Perceived Devaluation-Discrimination (PDD) scale for Turkish language and culture. With this aim, participants for two different samples were included in the study. The first sample consisted of 145 general community residents and the second sample consisted of 85 individuals with chronic psychiatric disorders. Statistical analyses were carried out to test for psychometric properties of the Turkish version of PDD in general community and clinical samples. In this regard, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, internal consistency reliability analysis, convergent and discriminant validity analyses were conducted. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, a two-factor structure for PDD emerged in both the general community and clinical samples. These factors were named as Perceived Discrimination and Negative Evaluation and Perceived Acceptance and Non-negative Evaluation subscales. The two-factor structure was supported with confirmatory factor analysis with good model-data fit in the general community sample and acceptable data-model fit in the clinical sample. Cronbach’s alpha values for PDD were .76 in the general community sample and .79 in the clinical sample. Alpha values of PDD subscales ranged between .72 and .77 in both samples. While convergent and discriminant validity tests provided partial support for construct validity of PDD in the general community sample, the convergent validity tests conducted with the clinical sample provided strong evidence for validity of PDD. The findings and their implications for future research were discussed.

Individual and group based factors affecting the relationship between perceived discrimination and well-being: the sample of Turkish minority in Bulgaria
Korkmaz, Leman; Cingöz Ulu, Banu; Department of Psychology (2010)
The present study examined the influence of perceived discrimination on the subjective well-being of Turks in Bulgaria. Based on Meyer‟s (2003) Minority Stress Model, the role of group resources namely collective self esteem, Turkish identification and Bulgarian citizen identification and the role of personal resources namely self-efficacy, optimism and social support on subjective well-being as well as the moderating effects of these variables in the perceived discrimination - well-being relationship were ...
Testing response styles theory : the relationship of response styles and problem solving to the depressive symptoms of preadolescents
Özgülük, S. Burcu.; Erdur Baker, Özgür; Department of Psychology (2009)
The present study aimed to test the Response Styles Theory with Turkish preadolescents. Therefore, two phases were followed. In thefirst phase, psychometric properties of Children's Response Styles Questionnaire (CRSQ) were examined. In the second phase, the relationship of response styles and problem solving way of children to their depressive symptoms with respect to grade and gender was tested. The sample consisted of 599 children and preadolescents(299 females, 300 males) with a mean age of 11.77 (SD = ...
The Investigation of attitudes toward the solution of Kurdish question in terms of basic human values

Under these transforming circumstances, attitudes toward the solution of Kurdish question were studied within the frameworks of basic human values ...
Turkish Version of the Dyadic Almost Perfect Scale: Reliability and Validity
Bugay, Asli; KALKAN, MELEK; Delevi, Rakel (2016-07-01)
The present study examined the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Dyadic Almost Perfect Scale (DAPS). The Turkish version of DAPS and Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS) was administered to 263 (157 female and 104 male) Turkish university students and 2 participants didn't specify their gender. Internal reliability was calculated and Cronbach's a coefficients ranged between .87 and .90. Criterion validity (Pearson correlation) between the DAPS and the MPS ranged from .27 to .50. A...
Turkish adaptation of the drive for muscularity scale: a validity and reliability study
Selvi, Kerim; Bozo Özen, Özlem (2019-06-01)
In the current study, it was aimed to adapt the Drive for Muscularity Scale (DMS), which has been commonly used to measure attitudes and behaviors related to muscularity, to Turkish. For this purpose, the data collected from 297 male participants were analyzed with exploratory factor analysis, and its results indicated that Turkish DMS has a three-factor structure for Turkish men, KMO = .87; Bartlett’s test of sphericity χ 2 (105) = 2512. 12, p < .001. This three-factor structure of DMS was also supported b...
