The pair production rates for spin-0 and spin-1/2 particles are calculated on spaces of the form M x R-1,R-1, with M corresponding to R-2 (flat); T-2 (flat, compactified); S-2 (positive curvature); and H-2 (negative curvature), with and without a background magnetic field on M. The motivation is to elucidate the effects of the curvature and background magnetic field. Contrasting effects for positive and negative curvature on the two cases of spin are obtained. For positive curvature, we find enhancement for spin-0 and suppression for spin-1/2, with the opposite effect for negative curvature.

Magnetic field and curvature effects on pair production. II. Vectors and implications for chromodynamics
Karabali, D.; Kürkcüoğlu, Seçkin; Nair, V. P. (American Physical Society (APS), 2019-09-17)
We calculate the pair production rates for spin-1 or vector particles on spaces of the form M x R-1,R-1, with M corresponding to R-2 (flat), S-2 (positive curvature), and H-2 (negative curvature), with and without a background (chromo)magnetic field on M. Beyond highlighting the effects of curvature and background magnetic field, this is particularly interesting since vector particles are known to suffer from the Nielsen-Olesen instability, which can dramatically increase pair production rates. The form of ...
Escape of photoelectrons and Compton-scattered photons from an HPGe detector
Can, Cüneyt (Wiley, 2003-07-01)
The response function of a planar HPGe detector due to escape of photoelectrons and Compton-scattered photons was studied for a point source with 59.5 keV energy. It was shown that both mechanisms, in addition to Ge x-ray escape, leading to partial deposition of energy, could be observed in the same experiment. A Monte Carlo program was used to investigate these components of the response function. The results indicate that although the escape of scattered photons and Ge x-rays are of the same magnitude, th...
Scalar mesons in radiative phi-meson decays into neutral k-meson states
Korkmaz (Şişman), Canan; Yılmaz, Osman; Department of Physics (2006)
Radiative Decays of the phi-meson to the scalar mesons f0(980) and a0(980) are investigated within the framework of charged kaon loop model for both point-like scalar mesons and for scalar mesons with extended structure. Then, the radiative phi-meson decay into neutral K-meson is studied via a two step mechanism in which the scalar mesons couple the final state to the phi-meson through the charged kaon loop. The branching ratio of this decay is calculated and it is shown that this reaction will not provide ...
HAMILTONIAN QUANTIZATION OF THE CP1 SIGMA MODEL IN 1+2 DIMENSIONS
Pak, Namık Kemal (1992-09-01)
CP1 sigma model with Hopf interaction in 1 + 2 dimensions is quantized canonically using a lifted formulation. In this formulation the Hopf invariant is still a local functional of the fields. However, the constraint structure is as simple as that of a U(1) gauge theory without any nonlinearity constraints. As a by-product, the theta-dependent fractional spin is computed in this local setting.
Photoelectron, compton and characteristic x-ray escape from an HPGe detector in the range 8-52 keV
Yilmaz, E; Can, Cüneyt (Wiley, 2004-11-01)
Escape of photoelectrons, Compton-scattered photons and Ge x-rays from an HPGe detector was studied as a function of energy in the range 8-52 keV. A variable-energy source producing Cu, Rb, Mo, Ag, Ba. and Tb x-rays was used. All three mechanisms for energy loss were observed in the same experiment for Ba and Tb, while only x-ray and photoelectron escapes were evident in the spectra for Ag, Mo, Rb, and Cu. Spectral features and possible mechanisms for partial energy deposition were investigated. A Monte Car...
