Chromosome number, morphology and location of the nucleolus organizer region (NOR) are useful cytological characters for taxonomic and evolutionary studies. The karyotype of Upeneus moluccensis from the north-eastern Mediterranean was investigated through conventional Giemsa staining, Ag-NOR staining, C-banding and GTG-banding techniques. The results showed 2n = 44 (FN = 46), 2m + 2st + 40a chromosomes and four NORs. Two telomeric C-band regions were observed on a metacentric and subtelocentric chromosome pair. On the basis of the chromosome morphology, the GTG and C-banding pattern, it is hypothesized that Upeneus moluccensis is more primitive than the Mediterranean native fish species, Mullus barbatus and Mullus surmuletus. In this study, the cytogenetic characterization of U. moluccensis has been carried out for the first time.

MOLECULAR PHYLOGENY OF SECTION DROSANTHE (SPACH) ENDL. (HYPERICUM L.)INFERRED FROM CHLOROPLAST GENOME
Dogan, Gulden; Yılmaz, Aslı; Bagci, Eyup; Kaya, Zeki (2017-12-01)
The phylogenetic relationships of Drosanthe section of Hypericum genus (Hypericaceae) were analyzed by using non-coding chloroplast DNA region (trnL 3'-trnF) for 58 individuals. The section is represented by 23 taxa and nine of which are endemic to Turkey. The chloroplast phylogeny suggested that the members of this section belonged to a polyphyletic group, which imply at least two independent origins. The individuals of this section clearly formed two main clades. One clade included all members of this sec...
Karyological Analysis and body proportion of Catfish Clariidae Clarias lazera Valeciennes 1840 in Göksu Delta Turkey
Ergene, Remziye Serap; Portakal, Ender; Karahan, Arzu (1999-01-01)
Chromosome analysis of Clarias lazera living in wet lands located in Göksu River (Göksu Delta) was accomplished by modified air-drying.Clarias lazera was found to have 18 metacentric, 26 submetacentric and 12 acrocentric chromosomes. Twentyfive systematically important meristic and morphometric characters of Clarias lazera in the Göksu Delta were examined for 49 specimens. In order to clarify the taxonomic status of Clarias lazera, which is not originally from this region, karyological analyses were carried...
Detailed chromosome measurements and karyotype asymmetry of some Vicia (Fabaceae) taxa from Turkey
MARTİN, ESRA; Yildiz, Hatice Kubra; KAHRAMAN, AHMET; Binzat, Okan Kaan; EROĞLU, HALİL ERHAN (2018-01-01)
This study examined the detailed chromosome measurements and karyotype asymmetries of seven taxa in the genus Vicia. The taxa are V. articulata, V. cassubica, V. villosa subsp. villosa in sect. Cracca, V. noeana var. noeana, V. sativa subsp. sativa, V. peregrina in sect. Vicia and V. caesarea in sect. Ervum. V. cassubica, V. noeana var. noeana, V. sativa subsp. sativa, V. caesarea have 2n = 12 chromosomes. V. articulata, V. villosa subsp. villosa, V. peregrina have 2n = 14 chromosomes in somatic cells. Tota...
Intergenic and Repeat Transcription in Human, Chimpanzee and Macaque Brains Measured by RNA-Seq

Transcription is the first step connecting genetic information with an organism's phenotype. While expression of annotated genes in the human brain has been characterized extensively, our knowledge about the scope and the conservation of transcripts located outside of the known genes' boundaries is limited. Here, we use high-throughput transcriptome sequencing (RNA-Seq) to characterize the total non-ribosomal transcriptome of human, chimpanzee, and rhesus macaque brain. In all species, only 20-28% of non-ri...
Phylogenetic relationships among native Oxytropis species in Turkey using the trnL intron, trnL-F IGS, and trnV intron cpDNA regions
Tekpinar, Ayten; KARAMAN ERKUL, SEHER; AYTAÇ, ZEKİ; Kaya, Zeki (2016-01-01)
We tested the phylogenetic utility of three chloroplast DNA loci, i.e. the trnL((UAA)) intron,trnL((UAA))-F-(GAA) intergenic spacer (IGS), and trnV((UAC)) intron, across thirteen native Oxytropis species. Our objective was to determine whether any of these chloroplast DNA markers could be beneficial to figure out phylogenetic relationships among Oxytropis species. To increase the interspecific sampling, nine sequences of the trnL intron and trnL-F regions were retrieved from GenBank and included in the anal...
