In this study, unilamellar and multilamellar liposomes consisting of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine, cholesterol and dicetylphosphate were prepared. Scanning tunneling microscopy images of these liposomes on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite surfaces were obtained. It was observed that scanning tunnelling microscopy can be succesfully used for high-resolution, three-dimensional structure analysis of liposomes under very mild conditions.

PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLYMER COATED SMALL UNILAMELLAR VESICLES
OZDEN, MY; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (1991-09-02)
Glucose oxidase was entrapped in small unilamellar vesicles composed of phosphatidylcholine, dicetyl phosphate and cholesterol. Prediction of the enzyme content of liposomes by calculations based on input concentrations of lipid and protein, dimensions of the lipids and the liposomes yielded one protein per vesicle. The entrapment efficiency was experimentally determined to be about 13%. On the other hand the entrapment efficiency for the small chromate ions was found to be significantly lower (0.1%). T...
Investigation of amino acid modifications derived from lipid oxidation in foods
Karademir, Yeşi; Öztop, Halil Mecit; Department of Food Engineering (2019)
This study aimed to investigate lipid derived amino acid modifications in foods. When the revealed carbonyl pool resulted from the repeated use of frying oils and high absorption rates of the oil during frying are taken into consideration, deep-fat fried foods have a significant potential to investigate this type of reactions. In the first part, effect of heating time of the frying oil on amino acid modifications in potato chips and model doughs was investigated. 2,4-decadienal, total free amino acid, decad...
Biochemical characterization of recombinant 20s proteasome from thermoplasma volcanium and cloning of it's regulatory subunit gene
Baydar, Gözde; Kocabıyık, Semra; Department of Biotechnology (2006)
In this study, we have characterized some biochemical and electrophoretic features of recombinant 20S Proteasome from a thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma volcanium. As revealed by SDS-PAGE the 20S Proteasome was composed of two subunits, ?- and β- subunits with estimated molecular masses of 24 kDa and 23 kDa, respectively. The highest chymotryptic activity was observed over an alkaline pH range (pH 8.0 ا pH 9.0) and the optimum temperature for the activity was determined as 85oC. The heat stability of...
Expression, purification and functional analysis of advenovirus type 5 e4 orf3 protein
Koyuncu, Emre; Severcan, Feride; Department of Biology (2004)
In this study, structural and functional aspects of adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) E4orf3 protein were analyzed by biophysical and biochemical methods. Ad5 is one of the mostly used gene therapy vectors to date. However, some of its proteins possess oncogenic potential and their presence comprises safety risks. E4orf3 is one of the oncoproteins of Ad5. It also takes important roles in viral infection, and is beneficial for therapy vectors. Therefore, understanding the functions of E4orf3 is very important for deve...
Electrochromic properties of a soluble conducting polymer of 1-benzyl-2,5-di(thiophene-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole
Tarkuc, S.; Sahmetlioglu, E.; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Akhmedov, I. M.; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2007-02-20)
In this study, synthesis of a thiophene functionalized monomer, 1-benzyl-2,5-di(thiophene-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole (SNBS) was achieved. A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical polymerization. The polymer synthesized via chemical oxidative method was soluble in organic solvents and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 and C-13 NMR) spectroscopy. The average molecular weight of the chemically synthesized polymer was determined by gel permeation chromatography (G...
