Pure and cadmium (Cd) doped hydroxyapatites (HA, Ca-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2)) were synthesized by a precipitation method from aqueous solutions of Ca(NO3)(2)4 center dot H2O for the former and Cd(NO3)(2)4 center dot H2O for the latter, by using (NH4)(2)HPO4 as the phosphate source, while pH was kept in the range of 11-12. The effect of incorporation of Cd2+ ions into the structure of HA was investigated after the air sintering at 1100 degrees C for 1 h. The results indicate that Cd2+ addition into HA yields nearly fully densified products with respect to pure stoichiometric HA. The XRD patterns showed that Cd doping increases the crystallinity of HA. The 2, 4.4, and 8.8 mol% Cd doped HAs had calcium oxide (CaO) impurity phase in their lattice. The CaO phase in the HA structure gradually disappeared with increasing Cd amount, and was replaced with cadmium oxide (CdO) in the CdHA doped with 11 mol% Cd. Cd2+ ion incorporation decreased the a- and c-axis lattice constants and unit cell volume of HA. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. All rights reserved.

SCANNING ELECTRON-MICROSCOPY OF TREATED BITUMINOUS COALS
HUAI, HY; GAINES, AF; FLINT, CD (Elsevier BV, 1992-11-01)
Scanning electron microscopy of particles of three bituminous coals (78.5% C, 81.7% C and 89.9% C d.a.f.) which had been treated with pyridine, methanol, bromine, air, sulfuric acid, ammonia and alkylating agents showed that the reagents produced significant changes in the morphology of the particles. The particles cracked and disintegrated in ways which appear to be characteristic of the disruption of hydrogen bonding, the volume and thermal changes accompanying local reactions and of the breakage of C-C b...
Poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) stabilized nickel(0) nanoparticles: Highly active and cost effective catalyst in hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of hydrazine borane
Sencanli, Selin; Karahan, Senem; Özkar, Saim (Elsevier BV, 2013-11-13)
When hydrazine borane is added to the solution of nickel(II) chloride and poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid-co-maleic acid), PSSMA, both reduction of nickel(II) ions to nickel(0) nanoparticles and hydrogen release from the hydrolysis of hydrazine borane occur concomitantly at room temperature. Using the hydrogen evolution from the hydrolysis of hydrazine borane as reporter reaction provides valuable insights to the formation kinetics of nickel(0) nanoparticles. Nickel(0) nanoparticles are in situ formed from the ...
Conducting polymers of succinic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl-ethyl)ester and their electrochromic properties
SACAN, L; Çırpan, Ali; CAMURLU, P; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-02-01)
The homopolymer and copolymer of succinic acid bis-(2-thiophen-3-yl-ethyl)ester with thiophene were achieved via constant potential electrolysis in the presence of tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate as the supporting electrolyte, and acetonitrile/borontrifluoride ethylether (ACN/BFEE) (10:2 v/v) solvent mixture. The characterizations of both homopolymer (PSATE) and copolymer P(SATE-co-Th) were achieved by various techniques including cyclic voltammetry (CV), Fr-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and U...
Hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride by using water dispersible, hydrogenphosphate-stabilized nickel(0) nanoclusters as catalyst
Metin, Oender; Özkar, Saim (Elsevier BV, 2007-08-01)
Water-dispersible nickel(0) nanoclusters are prepared from the reduction of nickel(II) acetylacetonate by sodium borchydride in aqueous solution and stabilized by hydrogerphosphate anion. Hydrogenphosphate-stabilized nickel(0) nanoclusters were characterized by using XPS, FT-IR, UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopic methods. As the first example of water-dispersible nickel(0) nanoclusters, they were employed as catalyst in the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride. Hydrogenphosphate-stabilized nickel(0) nanoclusters were...
Rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite nanospheres and further stabilized by dihydrogen phosphate ion: A highly active catalyst in hydrogen generation from the methanolysis of ammonia borane
Ozhava, Derya; Özkar, Saim (Elsevier BV, 2015-09-07)
Rhodium(0) nanoparticles, supported on nanosized hydroxyapatite (Rh(0)/nanoHAP), were prepared by ion exchange of Rh+3 ions with Ca+2 ions of hydroxyapatite, followed by reduction of the resulting Rh+3/nanoHAP precatalyst during the catalytic methanolysis of ammonia borane (AB) in the presence of tetrabutylammonium dihydrogen phosphate (TBAP) at room temperature. Rh(0)/nanoHAP were characterized by a combination of advance analytical techniques including ICP-OES, XRD, TEM, EDX, XPS, ATR-IR and N-2 adsorptio...
