Objective. To examine whether systemic administration of immunostimulatory and immunosuppressive oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) alter host susceptibility to inflammatory arthritis. Methods. Normal BALB/c mice were treated systemically with CpG ODNs or suppressive ODNs, and then challenged intraarticularly with CpG DNA. The onset and magnitude of the resulting inflammatory response was monitored. Results. Systemic delivery of CpG ODNs significantly increased susceptibility to local inflammation, whereas systemic treatment with suppressive ODNs reduced this susceptibility. CD11c+ cells played a key role in mediating host sensitivity to arthritis. These cells were the dominant source of tumor necrosis factor a production in CpG-stimulated animals and transferred resistance to arthritis from mice treated with suppressive ODNs. Conclusion. Systemic exposure to immunostimulatory and immunosuppressive DNA influences host susceptibility to local inflammatory challenge. Current findings raise the possibility that suppressive ODNs may be useful in the prevention/treatment of proinflammatory diseases.

A model based on multi-features to enhance healthcare and medical document retrieval
Al Zamıl, Mohammed G. H.; Betin Can, Aysu (2011-03-01)
Objective. A major problem in biomedical informatics is the contextual retrieval and ranking of medical and healthcare information. In this article, we present a model for extracting semantic relations among medical and clinical documents. The purpose is to maximise contextual retrieval and ranking performance with minimum input from users.
Synthesis and biological activity of siRNA and Etoposide with magnetic nanoparticles on drug resistance model MCF-7 Cells: Molecular docking study with MRP1 enzyme
Yalcin, Serap; Gündüz, Ufuk (2021-03-01)
Objective(s): In this work, MRP-1 (Multidrug resistance-associated protein 1) gene expression levels and anticancer activity of siRNA and Etoposide loaded Poly-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was studied on MCF-7/Sensitive and MCF-7/1000 Etoposide resistance cells. For this purpose, PHB covered iron oxide-based magnetic nanoparticles (PHB-MNPs) were prepared by coprecipitation. We used magnetic nanoparticles because they include highly targeted to tumors in vivo cancer therapy.
Use of the dynamic volume spline method to predict facial soft tissue changes associated with orthognathic surgery
Ulusoy, İlkay; Sabuncuoglu, Fidan; GÖRGÜLÜ, SERKAN; ÜÇOK, CEMİLE ÖZLEM (Elsevier BV, 2010-11-01)
Objective. The shape of the face can be estimated before the surgery by using 3-dimensional computer programs that provide tools to guide skill modifications. The aim of this study was to present the dynamic volume spline method to predict facial soft tissue changes after the modification of the skull associated with orthognathic surgery.
The association between adenomyosis and recurrent miscarriage
Atabekoğlu, Cem Somer; Şükür, Yavuz Emre; Kalafat, Erkan; Özmen, Batuhan; Berker, Bülent; Aytac, Rusen; Sönmezer, Murat (2020-07-01)
Objective(s) To assess the association between the ultrasonographic presence of adenomyosis and recurrent miscarriage (RM). Study Design A prospective matched case-control study was conducted between March 2018 and December 2018 at Ankara University Hospital. A total of 132 women were assessed with transvaginal ultrasonography for the presence of adenomyosis markers. The case group consisted of 66 women with RM. The control group consisted of 66 women without RM or any other gynaecologic conditions. The ra...
Use of the CY-PSPP in other cultures: a preliminary investigation of its factorial validity for Turkish children and youth
Asci, FH; Eklund, RC; Whitehead, JR; Kirazcı, Sadettin; Koca, C (Elsevier BV, 2005-01-01)
Objective. Growing international interest in self-esteem research and awareness of its relevance to human well-being and motivation has led to new opportunities to evaluate the cross-national and cross-cultural generalizability of self-esteem measurement. theory, and research (Marsh, 2001). Accordingly. the purpose of this study was to evaluate a Turkish translation of the CY-PSPP.
