CONSTRUCTION OF A QUADRATIC MODEL USING MODIFIED ANGSTROM COEFFICIENTS TO ESTIMATE GLOBAL SOLAR-RADIATION

1990-01-01
In this paper, a new correlation for the estimation of monthly average daily global solar radiation will be presented and compared with the correlations of Rietveld, Benson et al., Ögelman et al., and a recent formulation by Gopinathan. The overal results show that the quadratic form gives better performance in terms of global applicability. The new quadratic model should be preferred for the monthly average global solar radiation estimation when the data for bright sunshine hours are available

Development of new monthly global and diffuse solar irradiation estimation methodologies and comparisons
Karaveli, Abdullah Bugrahan; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin (Informa UK Limited, 2018-01-01)
In assessing and deciding the prediction schemes of solar irradiation countrywide, better the accuracy means better the management of energy transition toward renewables. Consequently, the present study is on the development of new models to make the most accurate possible estimations of the global and diffuse solar irradiation based on ground measurements. Such analysis produces the most accurate estimations for the input of solar energy systems. This is utmost significant for deciding the investments on s...
Comparisons and critical assessment of global and diffuse solar irradiation estimation methodologies
Karaveli, Abdullah Bugrahan; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin (Informa UK Limited, 2018-01-01)
Defining better methodologies of accurate predictions of the amount of monthly mean daily global and diffuse solar irradiation exposed is of utmost importance in order to determine the potential for utilizing the solar energy. This study compares and discusses the main methodologies, databases, and software that are used in estimating the solar irradiation to be used for the short- and long-term performances and feasibilities of solar energy systems, especially photovoltaic power plants in Turkey, and addre...
Preparation and characterization of cost effective spray pyrolyzed absorber layer for thin film solar cells
Sankir, Nurdan D.; Aydin, Erkan; Unver, Hulya; Uluer, Ezgi; Parlak, Mehmet (Elsevier BV, 2013-09-01)
In this study, highly (1 1 2) oriented crystalline copper indium disulfide (CuInS2) thin films with high mobility have been deposited via ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. Structural and electrical properties of CuInS2 thin films were examined to utilize them in solar cell applications. Various amounts of precursor solution ranging from 0.25 to 2.02 ml/cm(2) were used to form CuInS2 thin films onto the soda lime glass substrates. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that all sprayed films were pin...
Application of Nanoparticle Antioxidants to Enable Hyperstable Chloroplasts for Solar Energy Harvesting
Boghossian, Ardemis A.; Sen, Fatih; Gibbons, Brenna M.; Sen, Selda; Faltermeier, Sean M.; Giraldo, Juan Pablo; Zhang, Cathy T.; Zhang, Jingqing; Heller, Daniel A.; Strano, Michael S. (Wiley, 2013-07-01)
The chloroplast contains densely stacked arrays of light-harvesting proteins that harness solar energy with theoretical maximum glucose conversion efficiencies approaching 12%. Few studies have explored isolated chloroplasts as a renewable, abundant, and low cost source for solar energy harvesting. One impediment is that photoactive proteins within the chloroplast become photodamaged due to reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. In vivo, chloroplasts reduce photodegradation by applying a self-repair cycl...
The analysis on sun tracking and cooling systems for photovoltaic panels
RÜSTEMLİ, SABİR; Dincer, Furkan; ÜNAL, EMİN; KARAASLAN, MUHARREM; Sabah, Cumali (Elsevier BV, 2013-06-01)
This paper presents a review study on the effects of sun tracking and cooling systems. So far, many studies (and case studies too) have been analyzed and evaluated in the literature. Existing studies show that sun tracking system is significantly affecting energy generation capacity of photovoltaic panel. Other effecting parameter is the cooling system which has small effect on PV panel power generation but this totally depends on the location of installation system.
