Application of Electric Resistance Heating Method on Titanium Hot Forming at Industrial Scale
Ozturk, Fahrettin; Ece, Remzi Ecmel; Polat, Naki; Koksal, Arif; Evis, Zafer; Sheikh-Ahmad, Jamal Y. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2016-11-01)
In this study, hot forming of DIN WL 3.7024 commercially pure titanium with a sheet thickness of 0.6 mm was performed by electric resistance heating. The sheet materials were heated at 600, 650, and 680 A degrees C and then hot formed with an industrial press. Grain size measurement and XRD analysis were performed for each forming temperature in order to investigate microstructure and phase changes. Results indicate that no microstructural changes have occurred at the mentioned temperature range. It was con...
Investigation of Waterhammer Problems in Wind-Hydro Hybrid Power Plants
DİNÇER, Ali Ersin; Bozkuş, Zafer (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2016-12-01)
Sudden flow changes in confined pipe systems generate transient flow (waterhammer) conditions accompanied with very high or sometimes very low pressures traveling back and forth in the system. Depending on the magnitude of those pressures, pipe collapse or pipe bursting may take place at the weakest points of the system, resulting in costly damages as well as loss of human lives in some cases. In general, it may be encountered in the penstocks of hydropower plants, water transmission lines and water network...
Time-wise variation of scouring at bridge abutments
Yanmaz, Ali Melih (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2007-06-01)
Accurate estimation of the maximum possible depth of scour at bridge C, abutments is important in decision-making for the safe depth of burial of footings. Besides, investigation of the geometric features of scour holes around abutments provides useful information for the degree of scour counter-measure to be implemented against excessive scouring. Experiments have been performed to investigate time-dependent characteristics of scour holes around vertical wall abutments under clear water conditions with uni...
Novel insights on demographic history of tribal and caste groups from West Maharashtra (India) using genome-wide data
Debortoli, Guilherme; Abbatangelo, Cristina; Ceballos, Francisco; Fortes-Lima, Cesar; Norton, Heather L.; Ozarkar, Shantanu; Parra, Esteban J.; Jonnalagadda, Manjari (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-6-22)
The South Asian subcontinent is characterized by a complex history of human migrations and population interactions. In this study, we used genome-wide data to provide novel insights on the demographic history and population relationships of six Indo-European populations from the Indian State of West Maharashtra. The samples correspond to two castes (Deshastha Brahmins and Kunbi Marathas) and four tribal groups (Kokana, Warli, Bhil and Pawara). We show that tribal groups have had much smaller effective popul...
Mechanical Fracturing of Core-Shell Undercooled Metal Particles for Heat-Free Soldering
Çınar, Simge; Chen, Jiahao; Thuo, Martin (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2016-02-23)
Phase-change materials, such as meta-stable undercooled (supercooled) liquids, have been widely recognized as a suitable route for complex fabrication and engineering. Despite comprehensive studies on the undercooling phenomenon, little progress has been made in the use of undercooled metals, primarily due to low yields and poor stability. This paper reports the use of an extension of droplet emulsion technique (SLICE) to produce undercooled core-shell particles of structure; metal/oxide shell-acetate ('/'=...
