Synthesizing 2Mg-9Ni-Y catalyst was investigated by mechanical alloying of Mg, Ni, and Y elemental powder mixture and subsequent heat treatment. Accordingly, effects of milling time, process control agent (PCA) type (stearic acid and toluene), and heat treatment time on the powder microstructure, phase composition, and powder morphology were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and laser particle size analyzer (LPSA). Results showed that particle size of the samples prepared by toluene were smaller than those of the samples prepared by stearic acid. Also, it was found that the ternary Mg2Ni9Y compound was not formed by mechanical milling alone. This intermetallic compound was partially formed after the heat treatment of ball milled powders for 8 h at 800 degrees C. Effect of toluene on powder particle was higher than that of stearic acid. According to XRD patterns, it seems that the amount of formed Mg2Ni9Y in the samples which were ball milled for 15 h using stearic acid and subsequently heat treated at 800 degrees C for 8 h was more than the powders that used toluene in the same conditions. Furthermore, results of hydrogen desorption tests of MgH2 doped with 10 wt% sample prepared by toluene after the desorption time of 2500 s at 300 degrees C showed that it desorbed 1 wt% more hydrogen than MgH2 doped with 10 wt% sample prepared by acid stearic. Effects of additives on mechanical milling and hydrogenation of magnesium powders
Guvendiren, M; Bayboru, E; Öztürk, Tayfur (2004-04-01)
A study is carried out on the role of additives for structural refinement of magnesium powders in mechanical milling. Additives, namely Al2O3, SiC, V and graphite are chosen so as to cover a wide hardness range. Structural refinement after milling is studied both metallographically and in terms of X-ray line broadening. It is found that for efficient structural refinement, the additives should be chosen not on the basis of their hardness but rather whether or not they are preserved with an acceptable size d...
Effect of hydrogen ion-exchange capacity on activity of resin catalysts in tert-amyl-ethyl-ether synthesis
Boz, N; Doğu, Timur; Murtezaoglu, K; Dogu, G (Elsevier BV, 2004-08-10)
Activities of ion-exchange resin catalysts, having different hydrogen exchange capacities ranging between 5.1 and 1.3 meq H+/g, on the etherification reactions of 2M1B (2-methyl-1-butene) and 2M2B (2-methyl-2-butene) with ethanol were experimentally tested in a fixed bed reactor. These catalysts were prepared by the heat treatment of Amberlyst-15 catalysts at 220 degreesC at different durations of time and also by the synthesis of sulfonated styrene divinyl benzene cross-linked resins. Activity of these cat...
Effect of high-temperature on the swellable organically-modified silica (SOMS) and its application to gas-phase hydrodechlorination of trichloroethylene
Sohn, Hyuntae; Çelik, Gökhan; Gunduz, Seval; Majumdar, Sreshtha Sinha; Dean, Stacey L.; Edmiston, Paul L.; Ozkan, Umit S. (2017-01-01)
Pd catalysts supported on swellable organically-modified silica (SOMS) and high-temperature treated swellable organically-modified silica (H-SOMS) were characterized and tested for gas-phase hydrodechlorination (HDC) of trichloroethylene (TCE) conditions. The high-temperature treatment on SOMS resulted in an increase in surface area and pore diameter as well as significant improvement of Pd dispersion on H-SOMS with smaller Pd particle sizes compared to the Pd/SOMS catalyst. Although the high-temperature tr...
Behavior of mammalian cells on magnesium substituted bare and hydroxyapatite deposited (Ti, Mg) N coatings
Önder, Sakip; Calikoglu-Koyuncu, Ayşe Ceren; Kazmanli, Kürşat; Ürgen, Mustafa; Köse, Gamze Torun; Kök, Fatma Neşe (Elsevier BV, 2015-12-25)
TiN and (Ti,Mg)N thin film coatings were deposited on titanium substrates by using cathodic arc physical vapor deposition (arc-PVD) technique with magnesium contents of 0, 4.24 at% (low Mg) and 10.42 at% (high Mg). The presence of magnesium on both normal (hFOB) and cancer (SaOS-2) osteoblast cell behavior was investigated in (Ti, Mg) N surfaces with or without prior hydroxyapatite (HA) deposition (in simulated body fluid, SBF). Mg incorporation on TiN films was found to have no apparent effect on the cell ...
EFFECT OF ION ASSOCIATION ON THE PROPERTIES OF IONOMERS OBTAINED FROM METHYL-METHACRYLATE METHACRYLIC-ACID COPOLYMER
KOCAK, HI; ARAS, L (Elsevier BV, 1990-07-01)
The solution behaviour of Na, Ba, Zn and Al ionomers of methyl methacrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer (P(MMA-MAA)) with different ion contents has been studied by viscosity and dipole moment measurements. Two solvents with different character are chosen for viscosity measurements: dioxane (ε = 2.22) and acetone (ε = 20.7). The expected polyelectrolyte behaviour of the ionomers in acetone is reflected by the viscometric measurements. Mean squared dipole moment 〈μ2〉 values are calculated over a temperature r...
