Material modification is one of the hot topics recently. Hereby a novel functional monomer, 2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (BIPN), was synthesized for matrix generation through electrochemical polymerization. Its conducting polymer was successfully used for the biolayer construction in the biosensor preparation. The electrochemical and morphological properties were improved by the introduction of carboxylic acid functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs). Carboxylic acid functionalization of MWCNTs was carried out via acid treatment. The electrode surface was modified with the polymer and f-MWCNTs during electropolymerization to achieve a perfect immobilization matrix for alcohol oxidase. In order to prepare a new alcohol biosensor, alcohol oxidase (AOx) was immobilized onto the modified electrode. The modified electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron microscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques. Electrochemical responses of the enzyme electrodes were monitored at 0.7 V vs. Ag reference electrode by monitoring oxygen consumption in the presence of ethanol. Kinetic parameters, operational and storage stabilities were investigated. K-M(app), I-max, LOD and sensitivity were calculated as 16.946 mM, 3.31 mu A, 0.806 mM and 476 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2), respectively. Finally, this biosensor was applied to estimate the alcohol content in various beverages successfully.

Simulation of equal channel angular pressing applied to produce structures with ultrafine-sized grains
Karpuz, Pinar; Şimşir, Caner; Gür, Cemil Hakan (Inderscience Publishers, 2009-01-01)
Severe plastic deformation methods are of great interest in industrial forming applications, as they give rise to significant refinement in microstructures and improvements in mechanical and physical properties. In the 'equal channel angular pressing (ECAP)', which is the most common method for production of ultrafine grained bulk samples, very high plastic strains are introduced into the bulk material without any change in cross section. In this study, the plastic deformation behaviour of the materials sub...
A new framework for simulation of heat treatments
Şimşir, Caner; Gür, Cemil Hakan (Inderscience Publishers, 2010-12-01)
In this study, a mathematical framework based on finite element method (FEM) capable of predicting temperature history, evolution of phases and internal stresses during thermal treatment of metals and alloys was developed. The model was integrated into the commercial FEA software MSC.Marc® by user subroutines. The accuracy of the model was verified by simulating the quenching of eccentrically drilled steel cylinders. Simulation results were justified via SEM observations and XRD residual stress measurements.
Determination of Internal Stress of Ni Electroplated Samples in Sulphamate Solutions
Aykac, B.; Erdogan, M.; Karakaya, İshak (2017-06-01)
Internal stress is a common problem affecting the functionality of the electroplated materials. The parameters of electrodeposition and additive materials that are soluble in the bath change the characteristics of the plating and affect the internal stress of the coatings. The influence of the electrodeposition parameters on the internal stress of Ni deposits from the nickel sulphamate baths were studied by the help of fractional factorial design. The parameters included temperature, pH, current density and...
INTERESTING FEATURES OF AN ACTIVATED CARBON-SUPPORTED UREASE SYSTEM
KIBARER, G (Wiley, 1994-03-01)
Spherical activated carbon was employed as a new support material for the immobilization of urease. Activity and kinetic behavior of the enzyme were observed. Urease activity was decreased by 10% for the uncoated samples during the washing process whereas a 30% reduction in activity was observed for the coated samples due to the electrical discharge. Activity versus time plots generally appeared to be s-shaped curves at different initial urea levels. At high substrate concentration the kinetics no longer o...
Direct measurement of charge transport through helical poly(ethyl propiolate) nanorods wired into gaps in single walled carbon nanotubes
Wang, Nan; Yano, Koji; Durkan, Colm; Plank, Natalie; Welland, Mark E.; Zhang, Yan; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Mann, Mark; Amaratunga, G. A. J.; Milne, William I. (IOP Publishing, 2009-03-11)
We report the direct measurement of electrical transport through rod-like polymer molecules, of poly(ethyl propiolate) (PEP), utilizing single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) as electrodes. The electrical properties of the devices were measured (i) before cutting a SWNT, (ii) when a SWNT was cut and (iii) after PEP deposition into the nanoscale gap in a cut SWNT. The gate-dependent electrical properties showed a reduction in current from I-on = 2.4 x 10(-7) A for SWNT devices to I-on = 3.6 x 10(-9) A for PE...
