Polymerization of butadiene sulfone was accomplished by using two different methods. The first method involves electrochemical polymerization of the monomer using the constant potential electrolysis technique. Oxidation of the monomer under nitrogen atmosphere in an acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate system yields brown, tarry polymers. On the other hand, the second initiation method, which was radiation polymerization, yields white, powdery polymers. Structural analyses of the two polymers by various spectroscopic methods suggest a structure consisting of two different units in different proportions.

Fabrication and characterization of p-Si/n-ZnO heterostructured junctions
Klason, P.; Rahman, M. M.; Hu, Q. -H.; Nur, O.; Turan, Raşit; Willander, M. (Elsevier BV, 2009-04-01)
In this paper ZnO nanorods and nanodots (with and without a SiO2 buffer layer) were grown on p-Si, forming p-n heterojunctions. The nanorod devices showed no visible electroluminescence (EL) emission but showed rectifying behavior. Covering around 60% of the length of the nanorods with PMMA produced an ideality factor of 3.91 +/- 0.11 together with a reverse saturation current of 6.53 +/- 4.2 x 10(-8) A. Up to two orders of magnitude rectification was observed for the current at bias -3 and 3 V. The nanodot...
ELECTROINITIATED POLYMERIZATION OF ACRYLONITRILE
YURTTAS, B; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Akbulut, Ural (Informa UK Limited, 1988-01-01)
Anionic polymerization of acrylonitrile was achieved by constant-potential electrolysis via direct electron transfer to the monomer. The reduction peak potential in the (C4 H9)4 NBF4 -CH3 CN electrolyte-solvent system was measured by cyclic voltammetry. On the other hand, dimethylformamide-metal salts were not found suitable for the direct electron-transfer process in our system. Polymers produced both anodically and cathodically were found to contain cyclized structures.
A Pulse Voltage Application in Electrochemical Reduction of Solid CaWO4 Powder
Goksu, Orhan Gokce; ERDOĞAN, METEHAN; Karakaya, İshak (The Electrochemical Society, 2016-09-01)
Scheelite is the most abundant mineral of tungsten, but wolframite is used more than scheelite due to easier dissolution in alkaline solutions used in present processing methods. An alternative method based on electrochemical reduction of CaWO4 by direct current applications in molten salt solutions was recently reported. Pulse voltage and constant voltage reduction mechanisms were compared and an optimization of reduction kinetics was achieved in this study. The results have shown that faster reduction rat...
Synthesis of alpha-Fe2O3/TiO2 heterogeneous composites by the sol-gel process and their photocatalytic activity
Bouziani, Asmae; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
alpha-Fe2O3/TiO2 heterogeneous composites were synthesized by the sol-gel process to increase the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The structural, morphological, and optical characteristics of the composites were determined by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Results revealed that the incorporation of alpha-Fe2O3 to TiO2 widened the visible light absorption ability of TiO2. It was realized that the calcination temperature plays a crucial role in m...
POLYMERIZATION OF MALEIC-ANHYDRIDE INITIATED BY IMIDAZOLE
HACIOGLU, B; Akbulut, Ural (Informa UK Limited, 1991-01-01)
Imidazole was employed as an anionic initiator for the homopolymerization of maleic anhydride in various solvents. Polymerization was very rapid and the obtained products have different colours varying from white to dark brown. The colour of the product was found to depend on the quantity of imidazole added, and the solvent of polymerization. Darkness of polymers are thought to be due to cross-conjugation displaying paramagnetic character. The ESR signals of dark brown polymers were more intense than th...
