Mathematical contributions to dynamics and optimization of gene-environment networks
Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm; Tezel, Aysun; TAYLAN, PAKİZE; Soyler, Alper; Cetin, Mehmet (Informa UK Limited, 2008-01-01)
This article contributes to a further introduction of continuous optimization in the field of computational biology which is one of the most challenging and emerging areas of science, in addition to foundations presented and the state-of-the-art displayed in [C.A. Floudas and P.M. Pardalos, eds., Optimization in Computational Chemistry and Molecular Biology: Local and Global Approaches, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Boston, 2000]. Based on a summary of earlier works by the coauthors and their colleagues, it r...
Design, Development and Evaluation of Educational Software
Çağıltay, Kürşat(2009)
This course is designed to provide the necessary skills and background in formulating and using criteria and procedures for development and evaluation of instructional materials; synthesis of research; resources in the field. The course also underlines major steps and techniques used in design development and evaluation of instructional software.
Research trends in ceit ms and phd. theses in Turkey: a content analysis
Uğur Erdoğmuş, Feray; Çağıltay, Kürşat; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2009)
The main aim of this study is to look for trends in the instructional technology field in Turkey and to visualize general tendencies in the field in research topics, research types, and methodologies. Content analysis research design was used in this study. In this study, the unit of analysis was MS theses and PhD. theses published in instructional technology departments in Turkey, and the researcher aimed to analyze all of the population. Hence, 215 MS theses and 32 PhD. theses were analyzed in this study....
A New Mathematical Approach in Environmental and Life Sciences: Gene-Environment Networks and Their Dynamics
Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm; Alparslan-Gok, S. Z.; Soyler, B. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-04-01)
An important research area in life sciences is devoted to modeling, prediction, and dynamics of gene-expression patterns. As clearly understood in these days, this enterprise cannot become satisfactory without acknowledging the role of the environment. To a representation of past, present, and most likely future states, we also encounter measurement errors and uncertainties. This paper surveys and improves recent advances in understanding the foundations and interdisciplinary implications of the newly intro...
Development of internet based seismic vulnerability assessment tools
Türer, Ahmet (2005-06-01)
Seismic assessment methods are commonly divided into three phases: a) quick assessment b) detailed analysis and c) advanced methods. The dilemma between the large number of buildings to be assessed and low number of technical personnel and funding to assess buildings makes large cities wait on halt. Internet Earthquake Project (InEP) initiated as a Middle East Technical University BAP project in full conjunction with NATO-SfP977231 project, targets internet users to process the buildings in which they resid...
