A new optically translucent material has been prepared that acts as a substrate for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. This material is a silica matrix, synthesized by the sol-gel method and containing in situ precipitated AgCl particles which serve as precursors for nanoparticles of elemental silver. Reduction of AgCl to silver nanoparticles is achieved by UV irradiation. The SERS-active medium was distributed on glass supports (cover glass slips, 0.5 turn thick), hence producing thin, sturdy, and optically translucent substrates. SERS activity was evaluated by using brilliant cresyl blue and I-aminopyrene as model compounds. Parameters including the sol-gel composition, the aging period of the sol-gel, and the UV exposure time for photoreduction of the SERS medium were thoroughly investigated. These new substrates have exhibited long shelf lives; furthermore, they can be easily regenerated through a redox cycle involving chemical oxidation and photoreduction steps. In addition to use in direct chemical analysis, this novel type of SERS substrate can be used for indirect monitoring of HNO3 acid vapor via measurement of the SERS signal of 1-aminoyrene, which is attenuated as the substrate is oxidized by the acid vapor.

Design of a microbial sensor using conducting polymer of 4-(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole-1-l) benzenamine
Tuncagil, Sevinc; ODACI DEMİRKOL, DİLEK; Yidiz, Ersin; TİMUR, SUNA; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2009-03-28)
A microbial biosensor based on Gluconobacter oxydans cells immobilized on the conducting polymer of 4-(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzenamine (SNS-NH2) coated onto the Surface of graphite electrode was constructed. The proposed biosensor was characterized using glucose as the Substrate. The linear relation was observed in the range of 0.1-2.5 mM and defined by the equation y = 0.415x + 0.377 (R-2 = 0.986). Analytical characterization, effects of electropolymerization time, pH, cell amount and the ...
A neutral state yellow to navy polymer electrochrome with pyrene scaffold
Icli-Ozkut, Merve; Oztas, Zahide; Algi, Fatih; CİHANER, ATİLLA (Elsevier BV, 2011-09-01)
A new pyrene based soluble polymer, namely poly(3,3-didecyl-6-(1-(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4] dioxepin-6-yl) pyren-6-yl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4] dioxepine), P5, which is synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical methods, is highlighted. The polymer shows both electrochromic and fluorescent properties (the emission of yellow (545 nm) and yellowish green light (524 nm) in solid state and in THF solution, respectively). It is noteworthy that P5 has a specific optical band gap...
Silver Nanoparticles Added Polymer Film Prepared by Electrochemical Route for Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering Applications
Khadim, Raisan; Uzun, Ceren; Cihaner, Atilla; Kaya, Murat (The Electrochemical Society, 2019-03-02)
A simplemethod for the fabrication of stable and highly active surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate by exploiting the optical properties of the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and organizational characteristics of the polymer is presented. Homogeneous distribution ofAgNPs is achieved with the usage of poly (4,7-di-2,3-dihydrothieno [3,4-b] [1,4] dioxin-5-yl-2,1,3 benzoselena diazole) (PESeE) film coated on the indium tin oxide glass (ITO) surface. The obtained structure ensured the emergence of a...
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) studies on silver nanorod substrates
Sanci, Rukiye; Volkan, Mürvet (Elsevier BV, 2009-05-20)
We report the development of a novel SERS substrate prepared by the growth of silver nanorods directly on the surface of glass without using any linker molecule. Silver nanorods were prepared according to seed-mediated growth approach using cetyl-trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Nanorod preparation conditions were first optimized in solution phase and the plasmon absorption of the formed nanocrystals were monitored by UV-vis spectrometry. The most significant red shift in the longitudinal plasmon resonanc...
Polysilicon thin films fabricated by solid phase crystallization using reformed crystallization annealing technique
Özmen, Özge Tüzün; Karaman, M.; Turan, Raşit (Elsevier BV, 2014-01-31)
In this work, a reformed crystallization annealing technique is presented for the solid phase crystallization (SPC) of amorphous silicon (a-Si) on SiNx-coated quartz substrate. This technique includes a two-step annealing process which consists of a low-temperature (475 degrees C) classical furnace annealing for nucleation of Si and a high-temperature (900 degrees C) grain growth process of polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) during thermal annealing in classical tube furnace. The aim of this reformed two-ste...
