We report the development of a novel SERS substrate prepared by the growth of silver nanorods directly on the surface of glass without using any linker molecule. Silver nanorods were prepared according to seed-mediated growth approach using cetyl-trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Nanorod preparation conditions were first optimized in solution phase and the plasmon absorption of the formed nanocrystals were monitored by UV-vis spectrometry. The most significant red shift in the longitudinal plasmon resonance absorption of silver nanostructures was maximized in order to achieve the highest electromagnetic enhancement in Raman measurements. The images of the formed nanorods were recorded using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). These optimized conditions were adopted for the growth of nanorods on the surface of the glass substrate. Sol-gel-coated glass slides were used in order to increase the porosity on the surface for an effective seeding process. The SERS performances of the nanorod covered surfaces were evaluated by the signals of crystal violet (CV), brilliant cresyl blue (BCB) and benzoic acid (BA). Some modifications, for the enhancement of the SERS signals, such as the increase in the AgNO3 concentration in the growth solution and the addition of hydrocarbons to the growth solution were investigated. The high quality of the spectra obtained for the model compounds demonstrated the efficiency of the prepared substrate for the SERS enhancement and its potential as a SERS detection probe for chemical and biological analysis.

A sol-gel derived AgCl photochromic coating on glass for SERS chemical sensor application
Volkan, Mürvet; Vo-Dinh, T (Elsevier BV, 2005-05-13)
A new optically translucent material has been prepared that acts as a substrate for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. This material is a silica matrix, synthesized by the sol-gel method and containing in situ precipitated AgCl particles which serve as precursors for nanoparticles of elemental silver. Reduction of AgCl to silver nanoparticles is achieved by UV irradiation. The SERS-active medium was distributed on glass supports (cover glass slips, 0.5 turn thick), hence producing thin, sturdy, and optica...
Photoluminescence spectroscopy in the study of growth of CdSxSe1-x nanocrystals in glass
Allahverdi, C; Yukselici, MH; Turan, Raşit; Seyhan, A (IOP Publishing, 2004-08-01)
Growth of CdS0.08Se0.92 nanocrystals embedded in glass is studied through the combinative analysis of optical absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy at room temperature. The quantum confinement effect is observed in these structures. Average nanocrystal radii are found to be in the range of 2.3-4.2 nm with the help of a quantized state effective mass theory. Photoluminescence spectra are studied by means of the model of Ravindran et al (1999 Nanostruct. Mater. 11 603). The difference between the...
Solid phase epitaxial thickening of boron and phosphorus doped polycrystalline silicon thin films formed by aluminium induced crystallization technique on glass substrate
Ozmen, O. Tuzun; Karaman, M.; Sedani, S. H.; Sagban, H. M.; Turan, Raşit (Elsevier BV, 2019-11-01)
Aluminium induced crystallization (AIC) technique can be used to form the high-quality and large-grained polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin films, which are with the thickness of similar to 200 nm and used as a seed layer, on silicon nitride coated glass substrate. Thanks to aluminium metal in AIC process, the natural doping of AIC thin films is p(+) type (similar to 2 x 10(18) cm(-3)). On the other hand, recombination of carriers can be controlled by partial doping through the defects that may have adv...
Refractive index, static dielectric constant, energy band gap and oscillator parameters of Ga2SeS single crystals
Qasrawi, A. F.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Wiley, 2007-09-01)
The optical properties of Bridgman method grown Ga2SeS crystals have been investigated by means of room-temperature transmittance and reflectance spectral analysis. The optical data have revealed direct and indirect allowed transition band gaps of 2.49 and 2.10 eV, respectively. The room-temperature refractive index, which was calculated from the reflectance and transmittance data, allowed the identification of the dispersion and oscillator energies, static dielectric constant and static refractive index as...
Electrical Characterization of ZnInSe2/Cu0.5Ag0.5InSe2 Thin-Film Heterojunction
Gullu, H. H.; Parlak, Mehmet (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-05-01)
ZnInSe2/Cu0.5Ag0.5InSe2 diode structures have been fabricated by thermal evaporation of stacked layers on indium tin oxide-coated glass substrates. Temperature-dependent dark current-voltage measurements were carried out to extract the diode parameters and to determine the dominant conduction mechanisms in the forward- and reverse-bias regions. The heterostructure showed three order of magnitude rectifying behavior with a barrier height of 0.72 eV and ideality factor of 2.16 at room temperature. In the high...
