Effects of control parameters on SRM performance: A parametric search

2007-09-12
This paper investigates the effects of the SRM control parameters on torque ripple and efficiency. The average shaft torque, torque ripple and the torque per ampere variation of the motor are observed at different turn-on and conduction angles. The study is performed using simulation software developed by the authors. Some experimental results are presented which indicate that the software promises to be accurate. The findings of the study are presented to give an idea about the optimum switching strategy to achieve a reduced torque ripple over a wide speed range as well as high efficiency. Torque ripple is considered to be a figure of the quality of the motor performance relevant to the mechanical vibration and acoustic noise. The torque per ampere is used as an indicator of the drive efficiency. The findings indicate that it is possible to drive an SR motor with reduced torque ripple and high efficiency by proper choice of the control variables. However, it is also found that to achieve such operating conditions it is necessary to derate the motor.

This paper aims to develop an approach for performance calculation of an SR motor, which is suitable for use within mathematical design optimization. For this reason the requirement is to develop procedures, which are both accurate and fast. The procedures adopted here rely on flux-linkage-current-position curves of the motor. A series of tests are carried out on a test motor. The results are compared with estimations from the developed algorithms. It is shown that the current waveform, torque-speed curve, ...
Effects of Interruption in Power Supply of Induction Motors in Isolated Electrical Grid
Mirosevic, Marija; Maljkovic, Zlatko; Gasparac, Ivan (2011-09-10)
The aim of this paper is to analyse effects of power supply interruption on dynamics of induction motors connected to a synchronous generator in an autonomous operation. A complex mathematical model has been developed, whose components are: a diesel engine, a synchronous generator, a mechanical connection, and two unregulated induction motors which are fed directly from the synchronous generator terminals.
Direct Torque Control of a 4-Phase Switched Reluctance Machine
Petrus, V.; Pop, A. -C.; Martis, C. S.; Iancu, V.; Gyselinck, J. (2011-09-10)
Due to its doubly salient structure and highly nonlinear behavior, the Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) operates with very high torque ripple. To overcome these inconveniences different average and instantaneous torque control techniques were developed. This paper presents an instantaneous torque control technique named Direct Torque Control (DTC) implemented on a 4-phase, 8/6, 0.75kW SRM. Simulations results with modified flux observer and with fast torque response are presented and discussed, along with ...

In this paper, the implementation of the Field Oriented Control and the Direct Torque Control in matrix converter supplied induction motor drives is analysed, and compared with the implementation in drives supplied by the Voltage Source Inverter. The analysis is accompanied by the results of numerical simulations and experimental implementations of these two control methods.
Prediction of torque and inductance displacement characteristics of asymmetrically slotted variable-reluctance motors using a simplified model for numerical field solution
Ertan, Hulusi Bülent (1999-09-01)
For prediction of static and dynamic performance of doubly-salient motors, it is essential to know their flux linkage-position-excitation characteristics and also the static torque characteristics. At the design stage determination of these characteristics presents difficulties because of highly nonlinear behavior of the magnetic circuit. It is possible to use numerical field solution of the complete motor to obtain this information. This, however, requires expertise on a professional program and may be exp...
