I and my son are bakers and barbers, you and your sons are lapidaries and gardeners, but if you bid one of your sons be barber, a second baker, a third lapidary and a fourth gardener, all is confusion, and how can good come out of it? Furthermore he is no barber nor baker who does not belong to the Guild of the Barbers and the Guild of the Bakers. If your son [does not go] to the peshkadim and rank himself among the apprentices; next to the tehaoosh, to bid him inscribe his name on the rolls; then to the kihaya, to pay him toll, how should he be a member of the guild? Ask of the scheikh if I have not spoken well.

Seismic performance assessment of confined masonry construction at component and structure levels
Erberik, Murat Altuğ; Erkoseoglu, Gulden (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-02-01)
There are different techniques for masonry construction. Among these, confined masonry (CM) buildings may be regarded as an upgrade for unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings, which is the most common type. In Turkey, URM construction has been popular, especially up to the end of 1980s. These rather old URM buildings constitute a significant percent of the existing building stock. On the other hand, CM construction seems to be rare when compared to its URM counterpart in Turkey. This fact was also reflected i...
Completion Of Multi-Latform Remote Sensing Data Collection And Analysis Of The Northern Portion Of The Iron Age Capital On The Erkenes Dağ, Yozgat
Summers, Geoffrey(2012-12-31)
(Aims) Amaç: There are four objectives for this proposed study of the Iron Age capital on the Kerkenes Dağ overlooking the village of Şahmuratlı in the Yozgat region (Figs 1 and 2). 1. To complete the integrated multi-platform remote sensing surveys conducted over the northern portion of the Iron Age capital. 2. To combine the different sets of data and analyse the urban dynamics. 3. To prepare the results for final publication. 4. To make available, in usable form, aspects of these results that can be used...
Inheritance of wood specific gravity and its genetic correlation with growth traits in young pinus brutia progenies
Yıldırım, Kubilay; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biotechnology (2008)
In long term, to discover the genes responsible for wood production, genetic control of wood specific gravity (WSG) in Pinus brutia Ten. (Turkish red pine) open pollinated Ceyhan progeny trial, which was established with the seeds collected from 168 clones originated from six clonal Turkish red pine seed orchards was studied. Wood samples were taken by destructive sampling during the rouging of this trial at the age of seven. Specifically; (1) to examine the magnitude of family differences and its component...
Turkish preschool teachers' beliefs and practices related to two dimensions of developmentally appropriate classroom management
Şahin Sak, İkbal Tuba; Erden, Feyza; Durodola, Sharolyn (2018-01-01)
The purpose of this study was to describe to what extent four preschool teachers in Turkey have developmentally appropriate beliefs and practices related to two dimensions of classroom management. The participants of the study were four female teachers working in Ankara. The data of this study were collected through a demographic information protocol, interviews, classroom observations, and a document review. The findings of the study showed that preschool teachers' beliefs were closer to developmentally ap...
Plasma-activated direct bonding of diamond-on-insulator wafers to thermal oxide grown silicon wafers
Bayram, Barış; Akın, Tayfun (2010-11-01)
Diamond-on-insulator (DOI) wafers featuring ultrananocrystalline diamond are studied via atomic force microscopy, profilometer and wafer bow measurements. Plasma-activated direct bonding of DOI wafers to thermal oxide grown silicon wafers is investigated under vacuum. DOI wafer with chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) on the diamond surface makes a poor bonding to silicon wafers with thermal oxide. Our results show that plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition of silicon dioxide on top of the DOI wafer, CM...
