(+/-)-2-Hydroxymethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene. (+/-)-2-acetoxymethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene and their hexachlorinated derivatives were resolved via CCL- and PLE-catalysed hydrolysis to afford enantiomerically enriched products with e.e.s of 61-93%. The absolute configurations were determined by transforming 2-hydroxymethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene into the 2-formylbicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene with known absolute configuration.

Evaluation of the Protective Effects of Quercetin, Rutin, Naringenin, Resveratrol and Trolox Against Idarubicin-Induced DNA Damage
Çelik, Haydar; Arinç, Emel (University of Alberta Libraries, 2010-7-22)
PURPOSE. Idarubicin is a synthetic anthracycline anticancer drug widely used in the treatment of some hematological malignancies. The studies in our laboratory have clearly demonstrated that idarubicin can undergo reductive bioactivation by NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase to free radicals with resulting formation of DNA strand breaks, which can potentially contribute to its genotoxic effects [Çelik, H., Arinç, E., Bioreduction of idarubicin and formation of ROS responsible for DNA cleavage by NADPH-...
Coupling of pentacarbonyl[(cyclopropyl)methoxymethylene]molybdenum complex with ferrocenylalkynes: Synthesis of ferrocenyl-substituted cycloheptadienones and cycloheptenediones
Zora, Metin; Odabasoglu, Mustafa; Bueyuekguengoer, Orhan (2007-03-01)
Pentacarbonyl[(cyclopropyl)methoxymethylene ]molybdenum complex reacts with ferrocenyl alkynes to afford ferrocenyl-substituted 2,4-cycloheptadienones as major products, accompanied by varying amounts of 2-cycloheptene-1,4-diones and/or 2-cyclobutenones. 2-Cycloheptene-1,4-diones are secondary reaction products and result from initially formed 2,4-cycloheptadienones via hydrolysis. In one reaction, a hydroxy-substituted 2,4-cycloheptadienone derivative was isolated, which was not observed previously from si...
Crosslinking of Trimethylene Carbonate and D,L-Lactide (Co-) Polymers by Gamma Irradiation in the Presence of Pentaerythritol Triacrylate
Bat, Erhan; Feijen, Jan; Grijpma, Dirk W. (Wiley, 2011-07-07)
High-molecular-weight (co) polymers of trimethylene carbonate and D, L-lactide are efficiently crosslinked using PETA during gamma irradiation. Form-stable networks with gel contents of 86 +/- 5 to 96 +/- 1 are obtained from non-crystalline (co) polymers. Glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli of the networks can be varied by adjusting the copolymer composition. The PETA-containing (co) polymer networks are not cytotoxic. Upon incubation in macrophage cultures for 14 d, all (co) polymer films and ...
Modelling seasonal circulation and thermohaline structure of the Caspian Sea
Gunduz, M.; Özsoy, E. (Copernicus GmbH, 2014-6-10)
Abstract. The wind- and buoyancy-driven seasonal circulation of the Caspian Sea is investigated for a better understanding of its basin-wide and mesoscale dynamics, mixing and transport. The model successfully reproduces the following basic elements of the circulation: the southward-flowing current systems along the eastern and western coasts, the upwelling along the eastern coast, the cyclonic circulation in the Middle Caspian Sea (MCS), especially in winter, and the cyclonic and anticyclonic cells...
