The synthesis of a novel monomer based on benzimidazole and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene moieties, 4'-tert-butyl-4,7-di(thieno[3,2-b]thiophen-2-yl)spiro[benzo[d]imidazole-2,1'-cyclohexane] (TTBI), and its electrochemical polymerization are reported. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies of the polymer were investigated. The high optical transparency and low coloration efficiency during oxidation and reduction processes make the polymer a great candidate for hole-injection layers in light-emitting diodes and photovoltaic devices as well as counter electrodes for electrochromic devices.

Synthesis and electro-optical properties of new conjugated hybrid polymers based on furan and fluorene units
Gunes, Arzu; CİHANER, ATİLLA; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (2013-02-01)
A novel series of hybrid monomers containing furan and fluorene units, namely 2-(2-(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-7-yl)furan (FFF), 2,7-di(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-9-one (FOF) and 2-(2-(furan-2-yl)-9,9-dihexyl-9H-fluoren-7-yl)furan (FHF), was synthesized and their electrochemical polymerization was achieved via potential cycling. Optical and electrochemical properties of the polymers, poly(2-(2-(furan-2-yl)9H-fluoren-7-yl)furan (PFFF), poly(2,7-di(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-9-one) (PFOF) and poly(2-(2-(furan2-yl)-9,9-di...
Electrochromism in multichromic conjugated polymers: Thiophene and azobenzene derivatives on the main chain
Apaydin, Dogukan Hazar; Akpinar, Hava; Sendur, Merve; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2012-01-15)
Novel donor-acceptor-donor type polymers containing azobenzene group in polymer backbone chains were synthesized and their electrochromic properties were investigated. To increase the strength of the acceptor unit, fluorinated azobenzene containing donor-acceptor-donor type polymer was also synthesized. Cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemistry studies showed that poly((E)-1,2-bis(4-(4-hexylthiophen-2-yl)phenyl)diazene) (P2) and poly((E)-1,2-bis(2-fluoro-4-(4-hexylthiophen-2-yl)phenyl) diazene) (P3) we...
A blue to highly transmissive soluble electrochromic polymer based on poly(3,4-propylenedioxyselenophene) with a high stability and coloration efficiency
Ozkut, Merve Icli; Atak, Samed; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; CİHANER, ATİLLA (2011-01-01)
The optical and electrochemical properties of a regioregular and soluble alkylenedioxyselenophene-based electrochromic polymer, namely poly(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-selenopheno[3,4-b][1,4] dioxepine (PProDOS-C-10), which is synthesized by electrochemical polymerization, are highlighted. It is noted that this unique polymer has a low band gap (1.58 eV) and is exceptionally stable under ambient atmospheric conditions. Polymer films retain 97% of their electroactivity after 40 000 cycles. The percentage tran...
EFFECT OF π-BRIDGES ON ELECTROCHEMICAL AND PHOTOVOLTAIC PROPERTIES OF BENZOTHIADIAZOLE AND BENZODITHIOPHENE BASED CONJUGATED POLYMERS
Dikbıyık, Dilan Ece; Çırpan, Ali; Hızalan Özsoy, Gönül; Department of Chemistry (2022-1-28)
In this study, a series of the Donor -π bridge- Acceptor type conjugated polymers (PT1, PT2, and PT3) were designed and synthesized via Pd-catalyzed Stille polycondensation reactions. Synthesized polymers were used as donor moieties and blended with acceptor unit PC71BM to form the active layer of the bulk heterojunction organic solar cell (BHJ OSC). Polymers contain electron-deficient benzothiadiazole (BT) as acceptor unit and electron-rich benzodithiophene (BDT) as donor unit. Moreover, thiophene [T], sel...
Hydrologel from template polymerization of methacrylic acid and n-vinylpyrollidone and polyethleneoxide
Erdem, Yelda; Tinçer, Teoman; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2005)
This theses covers the preparation and the characterization of a rigid hydrogel from N-Vinyl pyrrolidone-methacrylic acid (VP-MAA) monomers and polyethyleneoxide (PEO) polymer. Hydrogels are hydrophillic natured three dimensional networks which can swell in the presence of water. The VP-MAA-PEO hydrogel was obtained by template polymerization which can be defined as a method of polymer synthesis in which specific interactions consists of the preparation of a polymer (daughter polymer) in the presence of a m...
