Zeolites have many applications in the petrochemical and fine chemical industry and their functionalization does expand the spectrum of potentials. However, the integration of functional nanocrystals into zeolite frameworks with controlled size, dispersion, and crystallization behavior still remains a significant challenge. Here, a new synthesis of magnetic functioned ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts via a CoFe2O4 nanocrystal mediated crystallization strategy is reported. It is found that high crystallinity of CoFe2O4 nanocrystals results in a well-dispersed encapsulation of them into a single-crystal of ZSM-5 due to non-further-grown nanocrystals during the fast ZSM-5 growth. On the contrary, low crystallinity of CoFe2O4 nanocrystals leads to the polycrystalline zeolite growth due to the secondary growth of nanocrystals accompanied by the zeolite crystallization and large lattice mismatch between them. The successful encapsulation of small CoFe2O4 nanocrystals (approximate to 4 nm) into single crystals lies on the preattachment of them into solid silica gel. During the growth of ZSM-5 crystals, no secondary growth of nanocrystals happens and its motion is restricted. The encapsulation of magnetic CoFe2O4 nanocrystals not only endows magnetic function into zeolites for the first time, but also does not impact catalytic performance of ZSM-5 in acetalization of cyclohexanone with methanol, which is highly promising in catalytic industries.

Bromination of naphthalene and derivatives: High temperature bromination XI
Dastan, A; Tahir, MN; Ulku, D; Balcı, Metin (1999-10-29)
Thermal and photobromination of naphthalene and derivatives have been studied. Several hexabromo- (12, 13, 16 and 17), and tetrabromotetralin derivatives (23, 24, and 25) have been obtained as the major products, besides bromonaphthalene derivatives. Base-promoted elimination reactions of 12, 13, 16 and 17 provided di- (8) tri- (10) and tetrabromo-naphthalenes (22). A convenient method was developed for the synthesis of 1,3-dibromonaphthalene (26) starting from (24). The structures of these products were de...
CO2 injection into saline carbonate aquifer formations I: laboratory investigation
Izgec, Omer; Demiral, Birol; Bertin, Henri; Akın, Serhat (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2008-03-01)
Although there are a number of mathematical modeling studies for carbon dioxide (CO2) injection into aquifer formations, experimental studies are limited and most studies focus on injection into sandstone reservoirs as opposed to carbonate ones. This study presents the results of computerized tomography (CT) monitored laboratory experiments to analyze permeability and porosity changes as well as to characterize relevant chemical reactions associated with injection and storage of CO2 in carbonate formations....
CCL- and PLE-catalyzed reverse enantiomeric separation of various (+/-)-2-thienylcarbinols
Tanyeli, Cihangir; Ozdemirhan, D (2001-01-01)
(+/-)-2-Thienylcarbinols and their O-acetyl derivatives were resolved in reverse separation by CCL and PLE catalysed hydrolysis to afford optically active 2-thienylcarbinols in 35%-99% e.e. that are valuable chiral building blocks, in particular in the synthesis of pheromones and some alkoloid type natural products. Absolute configurations were determined by the correlation of specific rotation values with the literature and by transforming into the corresponding secondary alcohols via reductive desulfuriza...
Multicomponent ion exchange on zeolite 4A
Kadaifci, Bijen; Yücel, Hayrettin; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
In this study binary and ternary ion exchange on Zeolite NaA using silver and cadmium ions were investigated. Ion exchange were conducted at constant temperature (25oC) and normality (0.1N) in a batch system for both binary and ternary experiments. Zeolite weights were varied between 0.1 and 1 g for binary experiments. Thermodynamic analysis of binary ion exchange between Cd2+-Na+ and Ag+-Na+ were examined and thermodynamic equilibrium constant and Gibbs free energy were calculated. Thermodynamic equilibriu...
Electrophilic Organoiridium(III) Pincer Complexes on Sulfated Zirconia for Hydrocarbon Activation and Functionalization
Syed, Zoha H.; Kaphan, David M.; Perras, Frédéric A.; Pruski, Marek; Ferrandon, Magali S.; Wegener, Evan C.; Çelik, Gökhan; Wen, Jianguo; Liu, Cong; Dogan, Fulya; Goldberg, Karen I.; Delferro, Massimiliano (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2019-04-17)
Single-site supported organometallic catalysts bring together the favorable aspects of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis while offering opportunities to investigate the impact of metal–support interactions on reactivity. We report a (dmPhebox)Ir(III) (dmPhebox = 2,6-bis(4,4-dimethyloxazolinyl)-3,5-dimethylphenyl) complex chemisorbed on sulfated zirconia, the molecular precursor for which was previously applied to hydrocarbon functionalization. Spectroscopic methods such as diffuse reflectance infrared...
