Reservoir parameters from the well test data are essential for reservoir management. Especially the identification the presence of the reservoir boundaries is important for an appraisal well testing. Providing reserve estimation, identifying new well locations and well placement and avoiding dry holes are some important outcomes. However more work on precision of the input data is needed before using the calculated well test parameters. Lots of ambiguity in the results obtained from well tests should be considered because input data is inevitably subject to estimation errors. When used in well test interpretation, each of them also brings its own source of errors. In this study, uncertainties caused by input parameters and measured data are discussed rigorously. By using the determined input parameters an experimental design is constructed. To reduce the errors and increase the confidence intervals, some remedies are used such as analyses procedure (deconvolution), design of well tests (longer build up and more than one build up after sufficient flow). After running the cases of the experimental design, the results are used to develop a linear predictive model to conduct sensitivity analysis. A real field example is presented to illustrate such errors and the applied remedies to field application.

Uncertainties in reservoir limit test results : effect of input parameters

Uncertainty in well test and core permeability analysis
Hapa, Cankat; Akın, Serhat; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2008)
Reservoir permeability is one of the important parameters derived from well test analysis. Small-scale permeability measurements in wells are usually made using core plugs, or more recently, probe permeameter measurements. Upscaling of these measurements for comparisons with permeability derived well tests (Pressure Build-Up) can be completed by statistical averaging methods. Well Test permeability is often compared with one of the core plug averages: arithmetic, geometric and harmonic. A question that ofte...
Numerical reservoir simulation of Alaşehir geothermal field
Aydın, Hakkı; Akın, Serhat (null; 2020-02-10)
Use of a comprehensive reservoir simulation is essential for an effective geothermal reservoir management. TOUGH2 has become a widely used simulator for this purpose. In this study, one of the most exploited geothermal fields in Turkey, Alaşehir geothermal field has been modeled by using TOUGH2 reservoir simulator. The study includes more than 100 wells, which are operated by 7 different developers. The total installed capacity of geothermal power plants in the field is 212 MWe, but additional capacity (98 ...
Performance Analysis of Existing Vs30 Prediction Models for Turkey and New Approaches to Improve
Okay, Hakan Bora; Özacar, Atilla Arda (2022-04-11)
Various parameters are used for geotechnical characterization and considering seismic site conditions. Among them, the most widely used one is the average shear wave velocity (Vs30) of the first 30 meters of the Earth's surface. Within the scope of the study, Vs30 measurements of accelerometer stations which are operated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) throughout Turkey, were mapped, and the slope and elevation values of these points were calculated using high resolution di...
State estimation of transient flow in gas pipelines by a Kalman filter-based estimator
Durgut, İsmail; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2016-09-01)
In this study, real-time estimation of flow rate and pressure along natural gas pipelines under transient flow condition is aimed. The estimation of the internal states of gas pipelines is based on a recursive discrete data filtering algorithm called the discrete Kalman filter. The state space representation of the transient flow in gas pipelines, which is required for the filtering algorithm, is established by a discrete form of the nonlinear partial differential equations (PDE's) describing the characteri...
