Electrochemical polymerization of 9-fluorenone, FO, was studied in CH2Cl2 solution with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate, TBABF(4), as the electrolyte, via constant potential electrolysis, CPE. Prior to CPE, the redox behavior of FO was investigated in the same solvent/electrolytic medium using cyclic voltammetry, CV. CPE of FO yielded an insoluble polymer deposit on the electrode surface. The product was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy techniques. The redox and spectroelectrochernical, SPEL, behavior of the polymer were studied by CV and in situ UV-Vis spectrophotometric techniques at various potentials, respectively. The conductivity was measured using a two-probe technique and the paramagnetic behavior of the polymer was monitored using in situ ESR spectroscopy.

Synthesis and polymerization of 2-and 3-substituted thiophene derivatives linked by polyether bridges
Tirkeş, Süha; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2004-11-15)
New compounds consisting of 2- and 3-thienyl units linked by polyether bridges have been synthesized and their electrochemical polymerization was performed via constant potential electrolysis (CPE) in an electrolytic solution containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)) dissolved in CH3CN. 2-Thienyl monomers (I and II), but not 3-thienyl monomers (III and IV), were also polymerized via chemical oxidation, which yielded broken pi-conjugated polymer products. The polymers were characteri...
Spectroelectrochemical investigation of the anodic oxidation of dibenzo-18-crown-6
Cihaner, A; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2004-10-01)
Poly(dibenzo-18-crown-6) (poly-DB18C6) was synthesized by electrochemical oxidation of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) using a mixture of acetonitrile and dichloromethane as the solvent and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBABF(4)) or tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)) as supporting electrolyte. The anodic polymerization of DB18C6 was investigated using in situ ESR and in situ UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. Spectroelectrochemical (SPEL), properties and thermal analysis of the resulting po...
Electrochemical copolymerization and characterization of dianilines linked by polyether bridge with aniline
TİRKEŞ, SEHA; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2010-04-01)
Copolymer of aniline and triethylene glycol bis(o-aminophenyl) ether was synthesized by constant potential electrolysis. Cyclic voltammogram of the copolymer films recorded in the monomer-free electrolytic solution revealed that the redox behavior of the films approaches to that of poly(triethylene glycol bis(o-aminophenyl) ether) with increasing amount of triethylene glycol bis(o-aminophenyl) in the feed ratio. Copolymerization was investigated by in situ recording the changes in the electronic absorption ...
Synthesis, characterization and optoelectrochemical properties of poly(1,6-bis(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)hexane) and its copolymer with EDOT
Ak, Metin; Sahmetlioglu, Ertugrul; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2008-09-01)
A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by electrochemical oxidative polymerization of 1,6-bis(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)hexane (TPH). The structure of the monomer was elucidated by H-1, C-13, MR and mass analyses. The polymer P(TPH) and its copolymer with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (P(TPH-co-EDOT)) were synthesized via potentiostatic electrochemical polymerization. Characterizations of the resulting polymers were performed by cyclic voltammetry (CV), FTIR, UV-vis spectroscopies; and condu...
Electrochemical co-polymerization of a novel fluorene derivative with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene
Bezgin, Buket; Yagan, Aziz; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2009-07-01)
The co-polymerization of a novel fluorene derivative, N-(9H-fluoren-9-ylidene)benzamine (FBA), with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) was successfully achieved in acetonitrile via direct anodic oxidation of the monomer mixtures both on platinum and indium-tin oxide working electrodes. The characterization of copolymer films, poly(EDOT-co-FBA), was carried out utilizing electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, electrochemical impedance (EIS), and FT-IR techniques. It is found that poly(EDOT-co-FBA) films whi...
