Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy has been used to measure the absorption of water vapor in 0.2-2.4 THz range from low to high humidity at room temperature. The observed absorption lines are due to the water molecular rotations in the ground vibrational state. We find that the absorption strength of para transitions increases as humidity increases, while the absorption strength of ortho transitions increases and then decreases in intensity with increasing humidity. We explain this difference based on the nuclear spin statistics based ratio of ortho to para water monomer populations at room temperature. The preferential adsorption on the solid surfaces of para water leads to an ortho dominated vapor cloud whose monomer rotational absorption intensity decreases due to the effects of dimerization, molecular collisions, clustering, and interactions with liquid droplets at high concentrations. Terahertz Transmission Through Patterened Vanadium Oxide Thin Films on Dielectric Substrates
AKKAYA, MAHİNUR; Demirhan, Y.; Yuce, H.; Aygun, G.; Ozyuzer, L.; SABAH, CUMALİ; Altan, Hakan (SCITEPRESS, AV D MANUELL, 27A 2 ESQ, SETUBAL, 2910-595, PORTUGAL; 2017-03-01)
Patterned and unpatterned films of vanadium oxide grown on dielectric substrates such as fused silica and sapphire were grown and analysed by varying the temperature using terahertz time domain spectroscopy. After investigating the critical transition temperature near 340K, a well-known cross-shaped pattern was studied to observe any resonances upon transmission. Due to the poor conductivity of the films the frequency selective nature of the structure was not observed, however an etalon effect could be seen...
Anharmonic line shift and linewidth of the Raman modes in TlInS2 layered crystals
Yuksek, NS; Hasanlı, Nızamı; Aydinli, A (Wiley, 2004-01-01)
The temperature dependence of the unpolarized Raman spectra from TlInS2 layered crystal was measured between 10 and 300 K. The analysis of the experimental data showed that the temperature dependences of wavenumbers and linewidths are well described by considering the contributions from thermal expansion and lattice anharmonicity. The purely anharmonic contribution (phonon-phonon coupling) was found to be due to three-phonon processes. This work demonstrates that the two Raman modes at 280.9 and 292.3 cm(-1...
Adsorption properties of a natural zeolite-water pair for use in adsorption cooling cycles
Solmus, Ismail; Yamali, Cemil; KAFTANOĞLU, BİLGİN; Baker, Derek Keıth; Caglar, Ahmet (2010-06-01)
The equilibrium adsorption capacity of water on a natural zeolite has been experimentally determined at different zeolite temperatures and water vapor pressures for use in an adsorption cooling system. The Dubinin-Astakhov adsorption equilibrium model is fitted to experimental data with an acceptable error limit. Separate correlations are obtained for adsorption and desorption processes as well as a single correlation to model both processes. The isosteric heat of adsorption of water on zeolite has been cal...
Metamaterial Sensor Applications Based on Broadside Coupled SRR and V Shaped Resonator Structures
EKMEKÇİ, EVREN; Sayan, Gönül (2011-07-08)
In this study, the use of broadside-coupled SRR (BC-SRR) metamaterial topology is suggested for pressure, temperature, humidity and concentration sensor applications. Also, the use of V-shaped resonator topology is suggested for pressure sensor application. The feasibility of such sensors are demonstrated by numerical simulations for microwave region under magnetic excitation.
Refractive index and oscillator parameters in TlGaS2, TlGaSe2 and TlInS2 layered crystals
Hasanlı, Nızamı (2011-01-01)
The optical properties of TlGaS2, TlGaSe2, and TlInS2 crystals have been investigated through the transmission and reflection measurements at room temperature in the wavelength range of 400-1100 nm. These measurements allowed determination of spectral dependence of the refractive index for all crystals studied. The dispersion of the refractive index is discussed in terms of the Wemple-DiDomenico single-effective-oscillator model. The refractive index dispersion parameters: the oscillator energies, the dispe...
