Although parenting and temperament have been investigated for many years, bidirectionality between them is a point of interest recently (Kiff, Lengua, & Zalewski, 2011). The current study aimed to investigate the cross-lagged effects between, temperament (i.e. behavioral inhibition) and parenting (i.e. maternal overprotectiveness and autonomy support) in relation to preschool children’s selfconcepts. In total, 180 children (93 females [51.7%], and 87 males [48.3%]; Mage = 61.15, SDage = 8.56) and their mothers participated in the study, and they were assessed in two time points with eight months interval. Children’s perceived selfconcepts were assessed with a puppet interview method via Child Self-View Questionnaire (Eder, 1990) and Berkeley Puppet Interview (Ablow & Measelle, 1993). Mothers responded to Parental Overprotection Measure (Edwards, Rapee, & Kennedy, 2008) to assess maternal overprotectiveness, Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (Robinson, Mandleco, Olsen, & Hart, 2001) to assess maternal autonomy support, and Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire (Putnam, Gartstein, & Rothbart, 2006) to measure the behavioral inhibition of children in both two waves of data collection. Data were collected through home/kindergarten visits. The data were analyzed using two sets (for two different parenting styles each) of v cross-lagged panel analyses. Results revealed that Time 1 (T1) assessments of children’s self-concept, behavioral inhibition, maternal overprotectiveness and autonomy support predicted their Time 2 (T2) assessments. Additionally, T1 maternal overprotectiveness positively predicted T2 behavioral inhibition; also, both T1 behavioral inhibition and T1 self-concept negatively predicted T2 maternal autonomy support. Results were discussed in the light of literature regarding the nature of temperament-parenting bidirectionality and the effects of Turkish culture.

Yılmaz, Simge; Olgan, Refika; Department of Educational Sciences (2011)
This research aimed at investigating pre-service and in-service preschool teachers’ views regarding creativity in early childhood education by determining similarities and/or differences among their views. The data of the study was gathered from 10 pre-service and 11 in-service teachers by asking their views about creativity in early childhood education. This study has been realized by the qualitative research method and the data was gathered through a type of interview, namely focus group technique. The se...

The Relationship between birth order, perceived parenting styles, and early maladaptive schemas
Nilüfer, Gözde; Canel Çınarbaş, Deniz; Department of Psychology (2016)
The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between birth order, perceived parenting styles, and early maladaptive schemas. We aimed to investigate differences in schema domains and perceived parenting styles based on birth order status of individuals. For this purpose, 294 individuals participated in the study. They were between the ages of 18 and 30. Only participants whose parents were still married were included in the study. Also, participants were excluded if their parents had die...
Investigation of cue-based aggregation in static and dynamic environments with a mobile robot swarm
Arvin, Farshad; Turgut, Ali Emre; Krajnik, Tomas; Yue, Shigang (SAGE Publications, 2016-04-01)
Aggregation is one of the most fundamental behaviors and has been studied in swarm robotic researches for more than two decades. Studies in biology have revealed that the environment is a preeminent factor, especially in cue-based aggregation. This can be defined as aggregation at a particular location which is a heat or a light source acting as a cue indicating an optimal zone. In swarm robotics, studies on cue-based aggregation mainly focused on different methods of aggregation and different parameters su...
Relationship between emotional skills of preschoolers and emotional intelligence of their teachers and mothers
