A computer program, SPECIATION, was developed to deter-mine the detailed composition of an aqueous solution and the concentrations and activities of all species. Once the detailed composition of an aqueous solution is known, it is possible to determine the saturation level of the solution with respect to any mineral, which is silica for this study.

Comparison of accumulation capacities of two lichen species analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis
Yenisoy-Karakas, S; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2004-01-01)
Instrumental neutron activation analysis and ICP-OES were used to determine 3 8 elements in two lichen species namely Xanthoria parietina (L.) Th. Fr. and Parmelia tiliacea (Hoffm) Ach. which were collected in Aegean Region of Turkey. It was found that the accumulation capacities of two species differed only for the elements Ca, Cl, Cu and Pb by using ANOVA at 95% confidence level. Average concentrations of all elements except for Ba, Mn and Hg were higher in Parmelia tiliacea. For the elements Ba, Br, Co, ...
Detection and characterization of plant genes involved in various biotic and abiotic stress conditions using ddrt-pcr and isolation of interacting proteins
Ünver, Turgay; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Department of Biotechnology (2008)
The main objective of this thesis dissertation is functionally characterizing the genes involved in biotic and abiotic stresses of plants at molecular level. Previously, upon pathogen attack Rad6 gene expression was found to be changed in wheat and barley plants. To functionally characterize the Rad6 gene, VIGS (Virus induced gene silencing) system was used. HR (Hypersensitive response) like symptoms was detected in every silenced barley and wheat plants. To figure out, transcriptomes and proteomes of Rad6 ...
Applications of terahertz spectroscopy in biosystems
Plusquellic, David F.; SİEGRİST, Karen; Heilweil, Edwin J.; Esentürk, Okan (Wiley, 2007-12-03)
Terahertz (THz) spectroscopic investigations of condensed-phase biological samples are reviewed ranging from the simple crystalline forms of amino acids, carbohydrates and polypeptides to the more complex aqueous forms of small proteins, DNA and RNA. Vibrationally resolved studies of crystalline samples have revealed the exquisite sensitivity of THz modes to crystalline order, temperature, conformational form, peptide sequence and local solvate environment and have given unprecedented measures of the bindin...
Synthesis of CuO nanostructures on zeolite-Y and investigation of their CO2 adsorption properties
Boruban, Cansu; Nalbant Esentürk, Emren (2017-10-01)
Copper(II) oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (NPs) in two different morphologies, spiky and spherical, were synthesized on zeolite-Y by a modified impregnation method, and their CO2 adsorbing capabilities were investigated under standard conditions (1 atm and 298 K). The properties and CO2 adsorption performances of the hybrid systems were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic absorption s...
Synthesis of selenophene substituted benzodithiophene and fluorinated benzothiadiazole based conjugated polymers for organic solar cell applications
Cevher, Duygu; Taşkaya Aslan, Sultan; Bolayır, Eda; Hizalan Ozsoy, Gonul; UDUM, YASEMİN; Yıldırım, Erol; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (2021-12-01)
A series of alternating conjugated copolymers which contain selenophene modified benzodithiophene and fluorine bearing benzothiadiazole have been synthesized via Stille polycondensation reaction to investigate the effect of the number of fluorine atoms substituted to the benzothiadiazole. Three different polymers, PBDTSe-BT, PBDTSe-FBT and PBDTSe-FFBT, were reported and their electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and photovoltaic behaviors were examined. Density functional theory calculations were perfor...
