Many studies in the product development literature discuss the benefits of partnering with suppliers. In these partnership relations buyers and suppliers establish long term, co-operative relationships during Product Development Projects (PDP) in order to reduce product development time and improve project performance. Traditional contractual approaches, on the other hand, where buyers work independently of suppliers and lack control over suppliers' resources, are commonly blamed for delays in the development time. This study constitutes of an initial effort to model and investigate these relationships analytically. The impact of scheduling strategies, the number of suppliers, and resource availability on PDP completion time is evaluated under contractual or partnership arrangement. Contractual relationships seem to provide a good or even better development times than the ones provided by the partnership approach.

Determination of factors that cause shopping hesitation
Külter Demirgüneş, Banu (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2018-4)
This study aims to provide general understanding of different set of factors that cause hesitation in buying electronic products. The study proposes seven cosntructs that predict shopping hesitation. The research model offers that consumer traits of innovativeness, risk averseness, brand consciousness, price/value consciousness, confused by over choice and contextual factors as time pressure and negative past experience cause shopping hesitation. The study tries to answer if these seven factors pertain...
Analysis of safety stock for production- inventory problem of a company under multiplicative form of forecast evolution
Kayhan, Mehmet; Erkip, Nesim; Güllü, Refik; Department of Industrial Engineering (2003)
In this thesis, we focus on integration issue of manufacturing and sales functions from the perspective of aggregate production planning. The manufacturing function and sales function are performed by separate affiliated companies of the same business group, which operate as an integrated supplier-buyer system. In particular, this study provides theoretical and practical insight into the use of forecast volatility measure to better match supply with demand so as to reduce the costs of inventory and stock-ou...
Designing customer demand oriented products: a case study on inner city bus interior design in Man Türkiye A.Ş.
Ant, Mustafa Fırat; Hasdoğan, Gülay Fatma; Department of Industrial Design (2005)
This study examines the customer demand oriented product development in brief and observes it in a case study held in MAN Türkiye A.Ş. through an interior design project of an inner-city bus, to cope with the production problems caused by various customer demands. The author aimed to document and to evaluate the product design process, so as to be used as a formal method in similar design cases, especially by highlighting critical design strategies. Finally a general evaluation of the project, method and th...
Relevancy of bipolar word pairs across product categories: comparative study between automobiles and the iphone
Köprülü, Seçil; Börekçi, Naz Ayşe Güzide Z.; Department of Industrial Design (2010)
This thesis investigates human product interaction with a focus on the physical experience provided by products. The differences of users' perceptions are discussed according to the differences of bodily experiences served by products. The interaction with products is taken as a holistic experience phenomenon, and in order to assess users' understandings and evaluations about the experience with products; perceived pragmatic qualities, perceived hedonic qualities and elicited emotional reactions are analyze...
Project scheduling with progress payments in generalized project networks
Özay, Batuhan; Sepil, Canan; Department of Industrial Engineering (2002)
This study presents a resource constrained project scheduling problem with progress payments in generalized project networks. In this thesis, contrary to the several studies where cash inflows occur at the completion of the activities, cash inflows of the project occur as progress payments at the end of the time periods. To achieve the objective of maximizing net present value (NPV) of cash flows three heuristic rules are employed. These rules have been examined and computational results have been reported.
