Design of an automatic tool changer with disc magazine for a CNC horizontal machining center

Automatic tool changers (ATCs) are devices used in CNC machine tools to exchange the tool in the spindle with the tool in the magazine. In this paper, the design of the ATC of a CNC horizontal machining center which was realized for a CNC machine tool manufacturer is introduced. After examination of several alternatives, it was decided to implement the disc-type ATC. A magazine was designed with 24 tools with a maximum tool diameter of 150 mm and a maximum tool weight of 8 kgf. The designed ATC can change the closest tool within 4 s and the tool farthest away within 6 s. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Design of a skid-steer loader
Yalçın, Tuğçe; Söylemez, Enes; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2012)
Skid-steer loaders are also called mini loaders. Skid-steer loaders are capable of zero turning radiuses, which make them extremely maneuverable and suitable for confined spaces. The aim of this thesis study is to design the loader mechanism for skid-steer loaders. Primarily, the loader mechanism synthesis will be performed to determine the basic link dimensions for the mechanism of the loader. Genetic algorithm will be used in the design process. Besides, the hydraulic cylinders dimensions and working pres...
Online trajectory planning for nonstiff robotic deburring machines based on dynamic movement primitives method
Uğurlu, Musab Çağrı; Konukseven, Erhan İlhan; Koku, Ahmet Buğra; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
Robotic deburring has an advance of precise and repeatable machining process on specific surface profiles. However, different from traditional deburring, deburring robots require generated trajectories on a workpiece with unknown chip thickness, which is a hard task due to the low stiffness of robot arm and abrasive tool used. This study presents a method for planning the online trajectory of a deburring robot by considering tool deflection based on the motion primitives trained from offline trajectories. F...
Fabrication of microfluidic devices for dielectrophoretic and acoustophoretic applications using high precision machining
Soheila, Zenaili; Çetin, Barbaros; Özer, Mehmet Bülent; Süleyman, Büyükkoçak (2014-07-03)
In this study, the fabrication of microfluidic devices for dielectrophoretic and acoustophoretic based applications with high-precision CNC machining has been presented. For both devices, molds out of stainless steel have been fabricated, and polymer molding is implemented. For dielectrophoretic device, the metal electrodes have been fabricated using high-precision machining and embedded into the device during the molding process. For acoustophoretic device, piezoelectric slides have been embedded into the ...
Development of a blade to blade solver for axial turbomachinery
Bilgiç, Mustafa; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2015)
In this thesis, a blade to blade solver for axial turbomachinery is developed. Actual blade to blade surface is three dimensional but it is reduced to two dimensions. This simplification is valid only for the turbomachinery having high solidity. Two different approaches are used for the solution of the two dimensional Euler equations through blade to blade streamsurface. The first one includes the solution of the steady form of the two dimensional Euler equations. The characteristics of the steady Euler equ...
Design of a tuned vibration absorber for a slender hollow cylindrical structure
Aksoy, Tuğrul; Özgen, Gökhan Osman; Acar, Bülent (Informa UK Limited, 2020-09-01)
In this paper, details of the design work for a tuned vibration absorber to be used on a hollow cylindrical structure is presented. The vibration problem is of resonant type and the tuned vibration absorber is designed to suppress the displacement vibration response of the free end of the slender hollow structure dominated by the contribution of its lowest transverse vibration modes. The structure is modeled using a commercial finite element software. Finite element model of the structure is verified using ...
