Pure and Zn2+ and/or F- doped hydroxyapatite (HA) were synthesized by the precipitation method and detection of ion incorporations into the HA structure was investigated by a non invasive Fourier transform infrared (FAR) spectroscopic technique. The synthesized materials were sintered at 1100 degrees C for 1 h. The Zn2+ addition amount was kept constant at 2 mol% whereas F- amount was changed. The weight fractions of the HA and CaO were calculated by Rietveld analysis by using GSAS. Co-doping of Zn2+ and F- ions increased the stability of HA. A detailed analysis of FTIR spectroscopy was performed to observe whether HA structure was formed or not. The bands corresponding to the (PO43-) functional group and (OH-) functional group were observed. Moreover, the ion incorporation into the HA structure and the amount of the ions were analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy. The OH center dot center dot center dot F bands were observed at 711 cm(-1) and 3543 cm(-1). The Zn-O stretching band was observed at 3403 cm(-1) and 433 cm(-1). The area calculation under the OH center dot center dot center dot F bands and (OH-) stretching and librational modes of the bands revealed that as the F- amount increased, the area under the bands at 711 cm(-1) and 3543 cm(-1) increased whereas the area under the (OH-) stretching and librational modes of the bands decreased due to the fact that F- ion replaced with (OH-) ion in HA structure. All these results showed that Zn2+ and F- ions were successfully incorporated into the HA structure. Moreover, the amount of F- ions in the HA structure was successfully confirmed by determination of the area under the F- and (OH-) related bands. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. Characterization of Ag/TlInSe2/Ag structure
QASRAWI, ATEF FAYEZ HASAN; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Wiley, 2011-07-01)
In this work, the current voltage characteristics of Ag/TlInSe2/Ag and In/TlInSe2/In structures, the incident light intensity and time dependencies of photocurrent as well as the response time-illumination intensity dependence of Ag/TlInSe2/Ag structures have been studied. For bias voltages larger than 1200. and 4.0 V, the current injection was found to be space charge limited and was assigned to the existing of deep and shallow hole traps being located at 210 and 16 meV for Ag and In-contacted samples, res...
Synthesis of calcium carbonate microspheres via inert gas bubbling for orthopedic applications
Oral, Cagatay M.; Caliskan, Arda; Goctu, Yagmur; KAPUSUZ, DERYA; Ercan, Batur (Elsevier BV, 2020-02-15)
Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) microspheres consisting of vaterite polymorph have been widely used in biomedical applications. Specifically, vaterite microspheres having hollow cores showed significant potential in drug delivery, however the spontaneous transformation of vaterite to other polymorphs in aqueous environments reduced its controlled in vivo release capability. In this work, calcite and aragonite microspheres having hollow/porous inner cores were synthesized -for the first time-using sodium dodecyl s...
Syntheses and Electrochemical Characterization of Low Oxidation Potential Nitrogen Analogs of Pedot as Electrochromic Materials
Hacioglu, Serife O.; Yigit, Deniz; Ermis, Emel; Soylemez, Saniye; GÜLLÜ, Mustafa; Toppare, Levent Kamil (The Electrochemical Society, 2016-01-01)
In this study, the electropolymerization of ethyl andmethyl substituted asymmetrical nitrogen analogs of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (OEt and OMe) were synthesized, characterized and their electrochemical properties were investigated. Both polymers (POEt and POMe) were synthesized electrochemically and characterized using spectroelectrochemical technique to determine optical changes of the resulting polymer films. Electrochemical studies demonstrated that these polymers exhibited a significantly low oxidatio...
Interaction of BrPDI, BrGly, and BrAsp with the Rutile TiO2(110) Surface for Photovoltaic and Photocatalytic Applications: A First-Principles Study
Cakir, D.; GÜLSEREN, Oğuz; METE, ERSEN; Ellialtıoğlu, Süleyman Şinasi (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2011-05-12)
The adsorption of perylenediimide (PDI)-based dye compounds (BrPDI, BrGly, and BrAsp) on the defect-free unreconstructed (UR) rutile TiO2(110) surface has been studied using total energy pseudopotential calculations based on density functional theory. All dye molecules form moderate chemical bonds with the defect-free UR rutile (110) surface in the most stable adsorption configurations. Electronic structure analysis reveals that HOMO and LUMO levels of the adsorbed dye molecules appear within the band gap a...
Fabrication of microporous ceramics from ceramic powders of quartz-natural zeolite mixtures
San, O; Abali, S; Hoşten, Çetin (Elsevier BV, 2003-01-01)
The possibility of producing ceramic powders suitable for the fabrication of microporous filters was investigated through the thermal treatment of the powder mixtures of a high-purity (99.09% SiO2) quartz and clinoptilolite type of natural zeolite. The quartz and zeolite, mixed in the ratio of 3:1 by weight, was wet ground in a ball mill, the powder was sieved on a 90-mum screen, and the undersize was dried and sintered in the powder form at the temperatures of 1000, 1100 and 1200degreesC for 7 h in an air ...
