The mechanical behavior of conducting polysiloxane-polypyrrole graft copolymers has been investigated as a function of ambient oxidative aging period. Graft copolymers of N-pyrrolyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (SPPy) with pyrrole were synthesized electrochemically at constant potential by using p -toluene sulfonic acid as the supporting electrolyte. Mechanical tests were performed on both unwashed and dichloromethane -washed copolymers after aging. An initial decrease followed by an increase in the tensile strength and strain values was observed with aging. The conductivities and mechanical properties of the films were determined to remain almost unchanged after 6 months of aging at about 46 S/cm.

The Role of Electrostatic Interaction between Free Charge Carriers and Counterions in Thermoelectric Power Factor of Conducting Polymers: From Crystalline to Polycrystalline Domains
Shi, Wen; Yıldırım, Erol; Wu, Gang; Wong, Zicong Marvin; Deng, Tianqi; Wang, Jian-Sheng; Xu, Jianwei; Yang, Shuo-Wang (2020-06-01)
One of the most burning problems in organic thermoelectrics is the lack of deep understanding on the key limiting factors of thermoelectric efficiency at different length scales for conducting polymers. Here, by examining a prototypical pi-conjugated polymer, poly(3-hexylthiophene) from molecular level to crystalline and polycrystalline domains, and on the basis of first-principles calculations, new insights are presented into the thermoelectric transport in conducting polymers, and new material design guid...
Nanocomposites based on blends of polyethylene
Işık, Fatma; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
In this study the effects of compatibilizer type, organoclay type, and the addition order of components on the morphological, thermal, mechanical and flow properties of ternary nanocomposites based on low density polyethylene, LDPE were investigated. As compatibilizer, ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate, ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate, and ethylene/butyl acrylate/maleic anhydride; as organoclay Cloisite? 15A, Cloisite? 25A and Cloisite? 30B were used. All samples were prepared by a co-rotating t...
Nanocomposites based on recycled poly(ethylene terepthalate)
Tolga, Aslı; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
In this study, the effects of glycol type, organoclay type and concentration on the final properties of nanocomposites based on recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) was investigated. For this purpose, first recycled PET was glycolysed and after that unsaturated polyester-montmorillonite nanocomposites were synthesized by using three different types of glycols (i.e. ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol (PG) and diethylene glycol (DEG)). As the first step, all the compositions were prepared by Cloisite 30B...
Thermal and structural characterization of polypyrrole by direct-insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Uyar, T.; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2001-03-15)
There have been extensive studies on structural characterization of conducting polypyrrole, PPY using various techniques. The two proposed structures are the aromatic form corresponding to the undoped state and the quinoid form corresponding to the doped state. However, actual structure appears to be more complicated and the relationship between the dopant used and the structure was not totally clarified. In this study direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry technique was applied to monitor therm...
The role of nanoparticle geometry in flame retardancy of polylactide nanocomposites containing aluminium phosphinate
Isitman, Nihat Ali; Doğan, Mehmet Onur; BAYRAMLI, ERDAL; Kaynak, Cevdet (2012-08-01)
Although there is considerable research effort in the development of halogen-free flame-retardant polylactide (PLA), a bio-based aliphatic polyester, the potential synergistic interactions of nanoparticles and conventional additives have scarcely been considered. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of nanofiller geometry on fire retardancy of PLA nanocomposites containing aluminium diethylphosphinate (AlPi) flame retardant. For this purpose, a variety of nanofiller geometries were utili...
