A new electrically conducting composite film from polypyrrole and 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)-bis(phthalic anhydride)-based polyimide was prepared. Pyrrole and the dopant ion can easily penetrate through the polyimide substrate and electropolymerize on the platinum (Pt) electrode due to the swelling of the polyimide on the metal electrode. The electrochemical properties of polypyrrole-polyimide (PPy/PI) composite films have been investigated by using cyclic voltammetry. The PPy/PI composite film is suitable for use as the electroactive material owing to its stable and controllable electrochemical properties. The electrical conductivity of composites falls in the range 0.0035-15 S/cm. Scanning electron micrograph, FTIR, and thermal studies indicate that PPy and PI form a homogeneous material rather than a simple mixture. (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Effects of nucleating agent and processing conditions on the mechanical, thermal, and optical properties of biaxially oriented polypropylene films
Yuksekkalayci, C; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Orbey, N (Wiley, 1999-07-01)
The effects of nucleating agent, temperature of crystallization, and degree of machine direction (MD) orientation on the mechanical, optical, and thermal properties of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films were investigated. Addition of nucleating agent improved only the initial tear resistance in the MD; however, the other mechanical and optical properties did not change appreciably. Ln the set of experiments in which the crystallization temperature was increased, the degree of crystallinity also i...
Synthesis and characterization of semiconductor thin films for photovoltaic applications
Tezel, Tamer; Küçükyavuz, Zuhal; Department of Chemistry (2009)
Cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films are very attractive materials due to their tunable optical properties and potential applications in not only photovoltaic devices but also in electronics, bio-labeling and fluorescence imaging. Recently, there is a great interest in flexible photovoltaic devices due to their unique properties such as very low weight, mechanical durability and large area applications. Organic semiconductors and their heterojunctions with inorganic materials are the most promising candidates f...
Preparation and Characterization of Polypropylene/Serpentine Composites
Tan, Semra; Tincer, İsmail Teoman (Wiley, 2011-07-15)
Composites of serpentine and polypropylene (PP) were prepared by twin-screw extrusion. Serpentine was collected as rocks from the Ankara-Beynam region and ground into powder with an average particle size of about 3 mu m for composite production. Both as-received (rock) and powdered serpentine were characterized. A silane coupling agent (SCA), gamma-aminopropyl triethoxy silane, was used for the surface treatment of serpentine. Mechanical properties of the composites were measured in terms of impact strength...
Preparation and characterization of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene and polyisoprene solvent-cast blend films
Akinay, AE; Tincer, T (Wiley, 1998-02-28)
This study covers the preparation of noncrosslinked and crosslinked solvent-cast blend films of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and polyisoprene rubber (PIR) and their mechanical, thermal, IR spectroscopic, and morphological characterizations. Solvent-cast films of polymer blends with 0, 10, 20, 35, 50, and 65% PIR composition were prepared by vigorous stirring from a hot decalin solution. The films were crosslinked chemically by using acetophenone as a crosslinking agent under UV radiation...
MODELING PERMEATION OF MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE GAS-MIXTURES THROUGH A LOW-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE PACKAGE FILM
ILTER, M; OZILGEN, M; ORBEY, N (Wiley, 1991-01-01)
Permeation of individual gases through a low density polyethylene package film with CO2-N2 and CO2-O2-N2 mixtures was simulated with a simple mathematical model. Permeabilities of carbon dioxide were of the order of 10(-12) m3/s m2atm/m with CO2-N2 systems. Including oxygen in the system did not change carbon dioxide permeabilities. Permeabilities of oxygen were of the order of magnitude of 10(-9) m3/s m2atm/m with this system. When a CO2-O2-N2 mixture was humidified no substantial change was observed i...
