Alpullu Şeker Fabrikası ve İşçi Konutları

Bu makale, çoğu kez Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemi endüstri yerleşimleri ve işçi konutları üzerinden tartışılan modernle ilk tanışma deneyimini, 1920’li yıllarda Trakya Bölgesinin kırsal kesiminde kurulan Alpullu Şeker Fabrikası İşçi Lojmanları özelinde ele almayı ve söz konusu yerleşkenin modernleşme sürecine, mekânsal ve toplumsal değişime etkilerini incelemeyi hedefler. Erken Cumhuriyet dönemi modernleşme söyleminin, siyasal olarak yeni bir yapılanma özelliği göstermesinin ötesinde, stratejik, mekânsal ve toplumsal kimliği etkileyen değişimler içerdiği düşünülmektedir. Dönem boyunca, yeni yapı tiplerinin inşa edilmesi, yaşama alışkanlıklarının kurgulanması ve modern kimliğin oluşması etkili olur. Bu kapsamda, devletin ekonomik ve sosyal/kültürel kalkınma hedeflerini bir arada çözümlediği endüstri yerleşkeleri, Anadolu’nun birçok kentinde mekânsal ve toplumsal yapının yenilenmesine katkı sağlar. Alpullu Şeker Fabrikası, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin bu amaçla gerçekleştirdiği ilk fabrikalardan biri olması bakımından önemlidir. Bu çalışmada, fabrikada yerinde gözlem yapılmıştır ve bilgiler fabrika arşivi ve çalışanlarından alınmıştır. Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında kurulan Alpullu Şeker Fabrikası, bölgeye sağladığı iş istihdamı, eğitim ve sosyal amaca yönelik sunduğu hizmetler, en önemlisi yeni barınma mekânları ile birlikte modern çekirdek ailenin oluşumuna katkıda bulunmuş, oluşturduğu mekânsal ve kuramsal farklılıklarıyla da kentin gelişimine ve toplumun değişimine yön vermiştir.
