We report a rare presentation of brucellosis as bilateral optic nerve and right abducent nerve involvement, and endocarditis complicated by right premacular hemorrhage in a 28-year-old white female. The patient showed improvement with both medical and surgical therapy. Brucellosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of papillitis, gaze palsy and endocarditis complicated with premacular hemorrhage in endemic regions.

Diagnostic Criteria And Clinical Manifestations Of Presumed Latent Tuberculosis-Related Uveitis In A Bacille Calmette-Guerin Vaccinatinated Community
Gurses, Ozlem; Karaismailoglu, Eda (2015-06-01)
Purpose: The wide range of clinical manifestations of presumed latent tuberculosis-related uveitis (TRU) make its diagnosis difficult in an endemic community. We described the ocular manifestations of patients with TRU, and we evaluated the correlation between skin induration value of tuberculin skin test (TST) and tuberculosis antigens tube value of QuantiFERON®-TB Gold (QFT) test in a Bacille Calmette-Guerin<br /> (BCG) vaccinated community. Methods: This was a prospective 1-year study in a tertiary refe...
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the mandible
Senel, FC; Bektas, D; Caylan, R; Onder, E; Gunhan, O (British Institute of Radiology, 2006-03-01)
We report a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) primary within the mandible of a 32year-old female. The mandible is a rare location of MFH, accounting for only 3% of all tumours of this type occurring within bone. The clinical, pathological and radiographic features are discussed with special emphasis on the radiographic features of this lesion.
Prognostic Factors for Amputation Following Surgical Repair of Lower Extremity Vascular Trauma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies
Perkins, Zane B.; Yet, Barbaros; Glasgow, Simon; Marsh, William; Brohi, Karim; Rasmussen, Todd E.; Tai, Nigel R. (2014-06-01)
Background: Lower extremity vascular trauma (LEVT) is a major cause of amputation. A clear understanding of prognostic factors for amputation is important to inform surgical decision-making, patient counselling and risk stratification. The aim was to develop an understanding of prognostic factors for amputation following surgical repair of LEVT. Methods: A systematic review was conducted to identify potential prognostic factors. Bayesian meta-analysis was used to calculate an absolute (pooled proportion) a...
Selenium doped calcium phosphate biomimetic coating on Ti6Al4V orthopedic implant material for anti-cancer and anti-bacterial purposes
Yılmaz, Bengi; Evis, Zafer; Banerjee, Sreeparna; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2014)
In order to prevent recurrent osteosarcoma in patients undergone surgical resection for implant insertion and infection around implant site, which is a very common complication after surgery, it is very important to functionalize the surface. In this study, to combine the effective antioxidant and potential anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties of selenium with the high biocompatibility and bioactivity of hydroxyapatite, selenium was added to the structure of hydroxyapatite via biomimetic method and coa...

Purpose: To investigate voriconazole (VRZ) penetration and fungal load in the cornea after applying VRZ therapy with various treatment combinations in a fungal keratitis model. Methods: Fifty-four eyes of 27 young albino rabbits were provided for this experimental study. Twelve corneas were inoculated with Candida albicans, 12 corneas were inoculated with Fusarium solani, and 6 eyes were selected as controls. Infected corneas received various treatment combinations including VRZ 1% drop therapy alone, VRZ 1...
