Wireless Sensing in Complex Electromagnetic Media: Construction Materials and Structural Monitoring
Ozbey, Burak; DEMİR, Hilmi Volkan; Kurç, Özgür; ERTÜRK, VAKUR BEHÇET; ALTINTAŞ, AYHAN (2015-10-01)
In this paper, wireless sensing in the presence of complex electromagnetic media created by combinations of reinforcing bars and concrete is investigated. The wireless displacement sensing system, primarily designed for use in structural health monitoring (SHM), is composed of a comb-like nested split-ring resonator (NSRR) probe and a transceiver antenna. Although each complex medium scenario is predicted to have a detrimental effect on sensing in principle, it is demonstrated that the proposed sensor geome...

Band-to-Band Transition Based On-Chip Optical Modulator
Gövdeli, Alperen; Sarihan, Murat Can; Karaca, Utku; Kocaman, Serdar (2018-10-04)
Photonic crystal slab phase shifter based, area efficient and low operation voltage optical modulator design is presented. Required index difference between the Mach-Zehnder interferometer arms of the proposed modulator comes from the photonic band transition.
Band gap and refractive index tunability in thallium based layered mixed crystals
Hasanlı, Nızamı (2015-07-21)
Compositional variation of the band gap energy and refractive index of TlMeX2-type (Me = Ga or In and X = S or Se) layered mixed crystals have been studied by the transmission and reflection measurements in the wavelength range of 400-1100 nm. The analysis of absorption data of TlGa1-xInxSe2, TlGa(S1-xSex)(2), TlGa1-xInxS2, and TlIn(Se1-xSx)(2) mixed crystals revealed the presence of both optical indirect and direct transitions. It was found that the energy band gaps of mixed crystals decrease at the replac...
Optimum and suboptimum blind channel and symbol estimation for SISO channels
Tuncer, Temel Engin (2004-12-01)
We present three methods for blind channel and symbol identification from a single or multi-block observation. These methods are deterministic approaches suitable for the identification of quickly changing wireless channels. The first method uses the finite alphabet property and it has good performance even for noisy observations. It requires only a single data frame, which is a unique feature of the method. This method can also be used to identify the channel order. For multi-block observations, we present...
