DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS OF FLEXIBLE LINEAR SHAPED CHARGE (FLSC) TO NEARBY PLATES DUE TO VARYING BACKSPACE DISTANCE

2011-09-16
The objective of this study is to investigate the detrimental effects of a flexible linear shaped charge (FLSC) to variable thickness (3, 4 and 5 mm) Raex Ar 400 back plate and constant thickness (4.8 mm) Al-6061-T6 front plate due to varying backspace distance (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 mm). A FLSC is used to cut both metallic and non-metallic material, quickly and efficiently. It is flexible and may be formed to produce cuts of many configurations, thereby making it particularly useful where more conventional cutting techniques are difficult to employ. While performing its function, the FLSC gives some damage to the back due to the high transient pressure and fragmentation effects. In order to decrease this damage, a steel plate is placed behind the FLSC.

TESTING, MODELLING AND SIMULATION OF LINEAR AND CIRCULAR LINEAR SHAPED CHARGES
Top, Mert; Dal, Hüsnü; Yıldırım, Raif Orhan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2022-7-28)
In this thesis, testing, modelling, and simulation studies of the Linear Shaped Charge (LSC) and Circular Linear Shaped Charge (CLSC) are presented. CLSC is an alternative design to the Flexible Linear Shaped Charge (FLSC). It contains a copper liner and metal housing which are designed and produced by considering the target profile. Then, a molten explosive (PBX-110) is cured inside the copper and housing, so the CLSC production is completed. By following this production method, different LSC and CLSC conf...
Optimization of a Convex Rail Design for Electromagnetic Launchers
Polat, Hakan; Tosun, Nail; Ceylan, Doga; Keysan, Ozan (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2020-06-01)
A rail geometry with a convex cross section instead of a rectangular one provides a higher contact area, uniform current density, and less transition on the contact surface, and it increases the performance in electromagnetic launchers. In addition, the design of convex rails should be considered together with armature structure, the distance between rails, rail length, and parasitic masses that all have an influence on the overall efficiency and armature/rail transition. A novel complete rail and launch pa...
Free Vibrations of Composite Plates Stiffened by Two Adhesively Bonded Plate Strips
Javanshir, Jaber; Farsadi, Touraj; Yuceoglu, Umur (2012-07-01)
In this study, the free flexural (or bending) vibration response of composite base-plate or panel systems stiffened by two adhesively bonded plate strips are theoretically analyzed in detail and numerically solved in terms of the mode shapes with their natural frequencies. Additionally, some important parametric studies are also included in the present study. The aforementioned bonded and stiffened system is composed of an orthotropic Mindlin base plate or panel stiffened or reinforced by the dissimilar, or...
FREE VIBRATION CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPOSITE SHELLS OF REVOLUTION WITH VARIABLE STIFFNESS COEFFICIENTS
Kayran, Altan (2008-07-09)
In the present study, the effect of initial winding angle, and the starting edge of the winding operation on the variation of the thickness, stiffness coefficients and undamped free vibration characteristics of filament wound composite shells of revolution are investigated. Filaments are assumed to be placed along the geodesic fiber path on the surface of the shell of revolution resulting in the variation of the stiffness coefficients and thickness along the axis of the composite shell of revolution with ge...
Performance of solar cells fabricated on black multicrystalline Si by nanowire decoration
Es, Fırat; Çiftpınar, Emine Hande; Demircioğlu, Olgu; Günöven, Mete; Kulakci, Mustafa; Turan, Raşit (2015-03-30)
Vertically aligned Si nanowire (NW) arrays fabricated by metal-assisted etching technique were applied to industrial sized (156 mm x 156 mm) multicrystalline Si cells as an anti-reflective (AR) medium. The NW lengths (between 0.15 and 2.2 mu m) were controlled by etch duration from 5 to 50 min. A completely black surface could be observed, demonstrating excellent AR properties in the entire range of the solar spectrum, even without additional anti-reflective coating layer (e.g., SiNx:H). Standard Si solar c...
