Target localization and the velocity estimation methods are proposed for frequency-only MIMO Radar with widely separated stations. For the target localization, time of arrival (TOA), angle of arrival (AOA) and frequency of arrival (FOA) informations can be used in cooperation. When the time resolution of the transmitted signals is not enough or good,i.e.; unmodulated CW radar, we can not rely on the TOA information to localize the target. On the other hand, if the frequency resolution of the transmitted signals is enough, only received frequencies can be used for finding the position of the target. Localization of a moving, non-maneuvering target is possible by using the Doppler-shift measurements in MIMO radar systems. This is a nonlinear problem and it can be solved by grid searching. After defining suitable cost funtion for the grid search, the desired area can be searched grid by grid to find the position of the target in 2D space. After target positioning is achieved, velocity of the target can be found by using the predefined cost function.

MIMO Radar Target Localization by Using Doppler Shift Measurement
Kalkan, Yilmaz; Baykal, Buyurman (2009-10-02)
A new method for target localization in MIMO radar is proposed. Localization of a moving, non-maneuvering target is possible by using Doppler-shift measurements and angle information in MIMO radar systems. This is a nonlinear problem and it must be solved for a grid search strategy. If the received frequencies and the angels between the target and the transmitter and the target and the receiver are known, we can search space grid by grid for desired (x, y) coordinates to find the position of the target in 2...
Study on Q-RAM and Feasible Directions Based Methods for Resource Management in Phased Array Radar Systems
Irci, Ayhan; Saranlı, Afşar; Baykal, Buyurman (2010-10-01)
Our recent progress and results on optimal real-time resource allocation in phased array radar systems are reported. A previously proposed discrete resource allocation approach, the Quality of Service based Resource Allocation Model (Q-RAM), is analyzed and is observed to generate nonoptimal results. We identify the shortcomings of this method and first extend it using the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) optimality conditions for the single resource type case. We obtain an algorithm that delivers a globally optima...
Target localization methods for frequency - only MIMO radar
Kalkan, Yılmaz; Baykal, Buyurman; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
This dissertation is focused on developing the new target localization and the target velocity estimation methods for frequency-only multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) radar systems with widely separated antennas. If the frequency resolutions of the transmitted signals are enough, only the received frequencies and the Doppler shifts can be used to find the position of the target. In order to estimate the position and the velocity of the target, most multistatic radars or radar networks use multiple independen...
Target Localization Methods for Frequency-Only MIMO Radar
Kalkan, Yilmaz; Baykal, Buyurman (2010-10-01)
When the time resolution of the signals is not so good, we can't rely on the time of arrival (TOA) information. On the other hand, if the frequency resolution of the signals is good, than frequency of arrival (FOA) informations will be more reliable. Localization of a moving, non-maneuvering target is possible by using Doppler-shift measurements in MIMO radar systems. A new method for target localization in frequency-only MIMO radar is proposed and it is compared with previous method. These methods use only...
An Optimal Radar Detector Threshold Adaptation for Maneuvering Targets in Clutter
Aslan, Murat Samil; Saranlı, Afşar (2009-04-11)
In this paper, we consider the problem of radar detector threshold optimization for maneuvering targets in clutter In the earlier works, the problem was studied in the context of the probabilistic data association filter (PDAF) for non-maneuvering targets. In this study, we have extended the ideas, which were applied to the PDAF to the interacting multiple model PDAF (IMM-PDAF) for maneuvering targets. The proposed optimization problem and its solution show better results over the traditional approaches in ...
