Characterization of a candidate effector of wheat yellow rust targeting chloroplast with a novel transit peptide
Andaç, Ayşe; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Gür Dedeoğlu, Bala; Department of Biotechnology (2019)
Fungal pathogen, Puccinia striiformis f. sp. trtici, is the causative agent of stripe disease of wheat which causes disruption on wheat yield in many parts of the world. Fungal pathogens secrete effector molecules into host plant cells to suppress host immunity via virulence to colonize plants. Ongoing efforts are being made to identify and characterize effector proteins in many fungal plant pathogens. Nevertheless, the precise biological and biochemical functions of many effectors, such as their traffickin...
Characterization of β-cyclodextrin modified SiO2
Nielsen, Ronnie; Kingshott, Peter; Uyar, Tamer; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Larsen, Kim L. (2011-05-01)
Silica particles containing a layer of beta-cyclodextrins were synthesized using a modified method of Armstrong (1985). The modified silica particles were extensively characterized to both the presence and amount of beta-cyclodextrin introduced onto the surface. Raman confirmed that beta-cyclodextrin was introduced onto the particle. The combination of thermogravmetric analysis (TGA) and direct pyrolysis mass spectroscopy were used to determine the amount and the chemical composition of organic material pre...
Characterization of extracellular beta-lactamases from penicillin G-resistant cells of Streptococcus thermophilus
Chirica, LC; Güray, Nülüfer Tülün; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Bozoglu, F (International Association for Food Protection, 1998-07-01)
In this study, biochemical properties of two extracellular beta-lactamases produced by penicillin-resistant Streptococcus thermophilus cells were investigated. Both beta-lactamases showed specificity for penicillins but not for cephaloridins. The p-lactamases exhibited different affinities for penicillin G. The one with the higher molecular weight (F1) had a K(m) value of 3.44 mu M and a V(max), value of 8.33, mu mol/min/mg of protein, whereas the beta-lactamase with the lower molecular weight (FII) had a K...

Characterization of skeletal muscle lipids in obese mice lines
Aras, Ebru; Severcan, Feride; Department of Biology (2012)
Obesity becomes an epidemic health problem in developing and developed countries, which arises due to stable life style and increase in the consumption of high fat diets. Obesity is generally accompanied with various clinical disorders, such as insulin resistance, type II diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular diseases. This study aims to characterize and quantify different lipid classes in longissimus dorsi (LD) and quadriceps (Q) skeletal muscles of control (DBA/2J), obese Berlin fat mous...
