Growth kinetics of gypsum during dissolution of colemanite with particle size less than 150 pm in aqueous sulfuric acid was studied in a batch reactor at 85 degrees C with a stirring rate of 400 rpm and initial CaO/SO42- ratio of 1.0. Kinetic data obtained from batch reactors was used to predict calcium ion concentration in continuous reactors by macrofluid and microfluid models. Model predictions were tested by experiments in four CFSSR in series each having mean residence time of 20 or 60 min. Calcium ion concentration predicted by macrofluid model in the first reactor was found to be closer to the experimental value indicating the significance of segregation. However, microfluid model provides the effluent calcium ion concentrations from the third and fourth reactors closer to experimental values. Verification of the model values by experimental data reveals that the methodology developed here is applicable to gypsum crystallization in n-CFSSR's in series. (c) 2007 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Solid-state synthesis and X-ray diffraction studies of Na2S
Kizilyalli, M.; Bilgin, M.; Kizilyalli, H.M. (Elsevier BV, 1990-4)
Na2S was synthesized by a new solid-gas reaction of Na2CO3 with a sulfidizing gas mixture and a solid-solid reaction of carbon with Na2SO4. The reaction products were analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction and IR methods. Two new crystal modifications of Na2S were identified in addition to the previously reported antifluorite structure. They were designated as cubic Form II and orthorhombic Form III. The approximate unit cell dimensions were found to be a = 11.29 Å for the cubic form and a = 15.94, b = 16.00,...
Determination of trapping parameters in n-Ga4Se3S by thermally stimulated current measurements
Goksen, K.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
Thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements were carried out on as-grown n-Ga4Se3S layered crystals in the temperature range 10-300 K. The experimental data were analysed by using different heating rates, initial rise, curve fitting and isothermal decay methods. The results of the analysis showed good agreement with each other. The measurements revealed the presence of one trapping level with activation energy of 23 meV. The corresponding capture cross-section and concentration of traps were found to be...
DETERMINATION OF TRAPPING CENTER PARAMETERS OF Tl2Ga2S3Se LAYERED CRYSTALS BY THERMALLY STIMULATED CURRENT MEASUREMENTS
YILDIRIM, TACETTİN; Nasser, H. A.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2010-06-10)
We have carried out thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements on as-grown Tl2Ga2S3Se layered single crystals in the temperature range 10-60 K with different heating rates of 0.6-1.5 K s(1). The data were analyzed by curve fitting, initial rise, and peak shape methods. The results were in good agreement with each other. Experimental evidence was obtained for trapping center in Tl2Ga2S3Se crystal with activation energy of 11 meV. The capture cross section and concentration of the traps were found to be ...
Experimental investigation of drag reduction effects of polymer additives on turbulent pipe flow using ultrasound Doppler velocimetry
Zeybek Vural, Serife; Bayram, Göknur; Uludağ, Yusuf (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2014-01-01)
Drag reduction in fully developed turbulent pipe flow with 4 concentrations (200 to 500 wppm or mg/kg) of low molecular weight sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in aqueous solutions was investigated experimentally. Drag reduction was determined by pressure drop measurements. Maximum drag reduction achieved was 22% using 500 wppm CMC solution. To observe the impact of the presence of CMC on the flow, ultrasound Doppler velocimetry (UDV) was employed to monitor the instantaneous velocity distributions. Expe...
Energy band gap and oscillator parameters of Ga4Se3S single crystals
Qasrawi, A. F.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Elsevier BV, 2007-06-01)
The optical properties of the Bridgman method grown Ga4Se3S crystals have been investigated by means of room temperature, transmittance and reflectance spectral analysis. The optical data have revealed an indirect allowed transition band gap of 2.08 eV. The room temperature refractive index, which was calculated from the reflectance and transmittance data, allowed the identification of the dispersion and oscillator energies, static dielectric constant and static refractive index as 21.08 and 3.85 eV, 6.48 a...
