Staged maturity model based process improvement have been widely employed and analyzed over the past few decades. However the participation of the employees and the continuity of process improvement activities while employing these models is an unexplored aspect of software process improvement research. In this paper we try to identify the causal factors resulting in the shortcomings of staged maturity models with respect to the continuity, extent, and employee participation of process improvement activities. We propose a preliminary set of activities and improvements that can be employed to alleviate the documented problems.

Do staged maturity models result in organization-wide continuous process improvement? Insight from employees
Uskarci, Algan; Demirörs, Onur (2017-05-01)
During the last two decades, staged models have been successfully used by software organizations for process improvement. However, the relationship between these models and organization-wide continuous process improvement has not been studied extensively. This study questions the continuity, extent and participation characteristics of software process improvement by analyzing the software process improvement activities and employee perceptions within two different software companies that has CMMI level-3 ce...
A Case Study on Employee Perceptions of Organization Wide Continuous Process Improvement Activities
Uskarci, Algan; Demirörs, Onur (2012-05-31)
Staged models for software process improvement have been extensively used by organizations. However the relationship between these models and organization wide continuous process improvement has not been studied extensively. This study builds upon a previous study that aims to fill in this gap by analyzing the software process improvement activities within a software company that has CMMI level-3 certification. The employees' perception regarding the organization wide continuous process improvement activiti...
Continuous process improvement in software organizations utilizing maturity models
Uskarcı, Algan; Demirörs, Onur; Department of Information Systems (2017)
During the last two decades, staged process maturity models have been successfully used by software organizations for process improvement. However, the subject of how effective these models are in terms of organization-wide continuous process improvement has not been extensively studied. This study aims to fill this gap by performing a multiple case study to answer questions such as “Are software process improvement activities continuous?”, “Is there an organization wide commitment to process improvement ac...
A review on capability and maturity models of building ınformation modelling
Yılmaz, Gökçen; Akçamete Güngör, Aslı; Demirörs, Onur (null; 2017-07-07)
Process assessment and maturity models in software engineering are widely used for process improvement. Likewise, assessing BIM capability and maturity have important effects on increasing BIM performance and enhancing benefits of BIM usage. Thus, there are various BIM capability and maturity models in the literature which are important for users to be able to select appropriate model for their BIM assessment purposes. This study aims to identify and analyse BIM capability and maturity models in the constru...
Continuous improvement on maturity and capability of security operation centers
Erdur, Efe Suat; Acartürk, Cengiz; Department of Cyber Security (2019)
This thesis has been studied to define the importance of maturity and capability assessment, and continuous improvement for Security Operation Centers (SOC). Additionally, it aims contribute to the academic literature to fill the research gap in this specific domain as well. The main focus of this thesis is to combine those two important concepts under same study and define a methodology to provide Security Operation Centers' a self-assessment capability which also evaluates the gaps between current and des...
