Sinus Output 3-Phase Inverter Topology for Improved Drive Efficiency

2014-09-24
Traditionally electrical drives and uninterruptable power supplies generate pulse width modulated outputs. Harmonic content of such waveforms are known to cause problems. Therefore, it is worthwhile to investigate 3-phase sinus output topologies, which can compete with traditional inverter topologies, regarding performance and cost. In this paper, first some topologies for producing single-phase sinus output are reviewed. Then, the possibility of using these single-phase units for producing 3-phase output is investigated. Finally, the findings are evaluated and the course for further investigation is identified.

A Proposal for Improving Efficiency of Inverter Driven Electrical Motors
Ertan, Hulusi Bülent (2011-07-28)
Conventional inverter output has PWM output. This pulsed output waveform reduces insulation life time, contributes to quick degradation of the bearings and also is often source of acoustic noise. Furthermore, losses of PWM inverter-driven motors increase. In this paper a novel topology is proposed which is capable of generating a sinusoidal waveform, with low harmonic distortion. If the proposed method is used for driving motors, motor efficiency increases due to reduced losses and lifetime of the motor may...
Fault Tolerance Capabilities of Three, Four and Six-Phase Configurations of a 24 Slot Modular PMSM
Bayazıt, Göksenin Hande; Keysan, Ozan (2019-07-01)
In this study, fault tolerance and redundancy capabilities of different phase and winding configurations of an Integrated Modular Motor Drive (IMMD) system are investigated. This is made possible by manipulating gate drive signals of the inverter and phase connections. Three and four phase connections as well as symmetric and asymmetric six-phase topologies are described. Control strategies and redundancy possibilities of these different topologies under an open circuit fault condition are examined in MATLA...
