A control system for hydraulic single axis durability test rig

2012-10-19
In this study, a controller is designed for a hydraulic actuator of a single axis durability test rig. The mathematical equations of the system are derived and a MATLAB Simulink (R) model is developed. The non-linear equations defining the system dynamics are linearized and the system is represented in state space. For the position control of the hydraulic actuator, a combined feedforward and feedback controller is designed. The feedforward controller estimates the force transmitted between the vehicle and the hydraulic actuator. Considering this force as a disturbance, a feedforward valve command signal is generated for compensation. In the design of feedback controller, the hydraulic actuator is considered independent of the load. Neglecting the valve dynamics and assuming the actuator chamber pressures are linearly dependent, a third order actuation system model is derived and a LQR controller is designed. In the design of LQR controller, the matrix penalizing the states is formed by approximating the impulse response of the closed loop system to an ideal second order response profile rather than by using iteration. The closed loop state space representation of the complete system is derived and its response is compared with the non-linear model.

A new sliding-mode controller design methodology with derivative switching function for anti-lock brake system
Okyay, Ahmet; Ciğeroğlu, Ender; Başlamışlı, Selahattin Çağlar (SAGE Publications, 2013-11-01)
In this study, anti-lock brake system control using sliding-mode controller is investigated. Different alternatives for the switching function and the sliding surface, involved in the structure of the sliding-mode controller, are explored. It was aimed to reach a better controller performance with less chattering and robustness to actuator imperfections. Regarding applicability, tire force response was modeled as a uniformly distributed uncertain parameter during controller designs. Controllers are simulate...
A NOVEL ROTARY MAGNETO-RHEOLOGICAL DAMPER FOR HAPTIC INTERFACES
Topcu, Okan; TAŞCIOĞLU, YİĞİT; Konukseven, Erhan İlhan (2015-11-19)
Haptic interfaces require lightweight, small actuators with high force capability and low friction. In this paper, based on the structure of conventional shear mode disc and drum type MR fluid dampers, a lightweight continuous rotary MR damper working in valve mode is designed for haptic interfaces. The proposed design is compared to shear mode disc-type and drum-type designs with similar torque-to mass ratio via computer simulations. Mathematical models for the resistant torques of both the shear mode and ...
A Readout circuit for resonant MEMS temperature sensors
Asadi, Hamed; Akın, Tayfun; Azgın, Kıvanç; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
High precision is the dominant advantage that resonant sensors have over other types of analog sensors (sensors with a subsequent analog-to-digital converter). The resolution of these precise sensors is determined by both frequency resolution and sensitivity of the sensor. The sensitivity is highly related to the sensitivity of the MEMS resonator. However, the frequency resolution is dominantly defined by the closed-loop circuitry if noise contribution of the resonator is assumed to be smaller than that of ...
Development of load distribution model and micro-geometry optimization of four-point contact ball bearings
Yılmaz, Sinan; Akkök, Metin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
The unique kinematic characteristics and load-carrying capabilities of four-point contact ball bearings make these bearings being widely used in demanding applications. Particularly, four-point contact ball bearings are preferred due to their reverse axial load carrying capability and high level of stability. In this study, micro and macro geometrical aspects of these bearings are investigated and compared with the conventional ball bearings. Once the geometry and internal kinematics of four-point contact b...
A Novel Noise Reduction Technology for Switched Reluctance Motors
Bizkevelci, Erdal; Özlü Ertan, Hatice Gülçin; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2008-07-24)
The conditions are sought at which an SIR motor can be operated with highest efficiency, while producing a desired torque output at low shaft torque ripple. The investigation is based on the simulation software that uses measured flux-linkage (V, 0, 1) and static torque (T, 0, 1) characteristics of a given motor. The variation of the shaft torque, torque ripple and efficiency of the motor Is investigated, while the control variables "advance angle" and "conduction angle" are swept over their range with a co...
