Expectancy of large pulsar glitches

We study the expectancy of large glitches (Delta Omega/Omega > 10(-7)) from a sample of 472 pulsars other than the Vela pulsar. The pulsars in this sample have exhibited 20 large glitches. In the sample the total observation span is larger than 2000 pulsar years. We assume that all pulsars experience such glitches, with rates that depend on the pulsars' rotation rate and spin-down rate, and on the glitch model. The superfluid vortex unpinning model gives good agreement with the observed distribution of glitches and with the parameter values deduced for the Vela pulsar glitches.

We study the expectancy of large glitches (DELTAOMEGA/OMEGA > 10(-7)) from a sample of 430 pulsars other than the Vela pulsar. The pulsars in this sample have exhibited 19 large glitches. We assume that all pulsars experience such glitches, with rates that depend on the pulsar's rotation rate OMEGA and spin-down rate OMEGA, and on the glitch model. We use the core-quake model, and two variants of the superfluid vortex unpinning model, and choose model parameters such that the observed number of glitches is ...
Pulsar braking indices, glitches and energy dissipation in neutron stars
Alpar, M. Ali; Baykal, Altan (Oxford University Press (OUP), 2006-10-11)
Almost all pulsars with anomalous positive Omega measurements (corresponding to anomalous braking indices in the range 5 <vertical bar n vertical bar < 100), including all the pulsars with observed large glitches (Delta Omega/Omega > 10(-7)) as well as post-glitch or interglitch Omega measurements, obey the scaling between Omega and glitch parameters originally noted in the Vela pulsar. Negative second derivative values can be understood in terms of glitches that were missed or remained unresolved. We discu...
RXTE and Swift Observations of SWIFT J0513.4-6547
Sahiner, S.; Serim, Muhammed Miraç; Baykal, Altan; İNAM, SITKI ÇAĞDAŞ (Oxford University Press (OUP), 2016-02-11)
We present timing and spectral analysis of Swift-XRT (X-ray Telescope) and RXTE-PCA (Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer-proportional Counter Array) observations of the transient Be/X-ray pulsar SWIFT J0513.4-6547 during its outburst in 2009 and its rebrightening in 2014. From 2009 observations, short-term spin-up rate of the source after the peak of the outburst is found to have about half of the value measured at the peak of the outburst by Coe et al. When the source is quiescent between 2009 and 2014, average sp...
Evolution Of Rotating Low Mass Stars With Angular-Momentum Loss
KIZILOGLU, N (1991-03-01)
The evolutionary behavior of rotating low mass stars has been investigated with angular momentum loss by the magnetic stellar wind through the pre-main sequence and on the zero age main sequence phases. As the stars contract toward the zero age main sequence, angular momentum is removed from the convective envelope under the assumption that initially only the convective envelope is spun down in low mass stars. It is obtained that most of the angular momentum loss occurs prior to reaching the zero age main s...
Ccd photometry and time series analysis of v2275 cyg and rw umi using data from the TUBITAK national observatory
Yılmaz, Mustafa Arda; Balman, Şölen; Department of Physics (2004)
In this work, we analyze the data from 1.5 m telescope of Tubitak National Observatory (TUG) for two objects V2275 Cyg and RW UMi. After applying aperture and PSF photometry to the CCD data, we derive the light curve of the objects. Also we apply discrete Fourier transform and Scargle time series analysis to obtain power spectrum and search for periodicities in their power spectra in which both systems show interesting properties. We discover large variations in V2275 Cyg due to irradiation effects on the s...
